Boy, 5, Fatally Beaten with Belt After Uncle Reacts to Poor School Report

Neighbors frequently heard cries emanating from the house, but no one anticipated the tragic outcome.

According to one witness, they observed the uncle standing outside the house shortly before the young girl was taken to the hospital, appearing distressed and speaking incoherently. “It was as if he had some knowledge of the impending tragedy,” the neighbor recounted.

Now, there are concerns about whether this incident was an isolated event or part of a larger pattern of mistreatment that had been overlooked for an extended period.

The tragic incident occurred when a 5-year-old boy lost his life after his uncle allegedly physically assaulted him due to his poor academic performance.

A young boy, aged five, met a tragic end after being subjected to physical abuse by his uncle, who was reportedly furious due to the child’s academic struggles.

Yosuar Smith Cabrera, a five-year-old boy, was taken to a hospital in Colombia with severe injuries after being hit ten times with a belt by his uncle, James Alberto Caicedo, who is 38 years old. The alleged assault occurred following caicedo’s review of the child’s school report.

After the incident, the uncle instructed yosuar to clean himself in the bathroom, where he was discovered later in a state of unconsciousness. He was rushed to a nearby medical center, but unfortunately, he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

According to reports, Yusuar was being looked after by his uncle during the summer, as his mother is currently in prison and his father had relocated to a different city. Dr. César gonzalez, deputy manager of san antonio de padua departmental hospital, said the uncle admitted to hitting the boy ten times with a belt due to disappointing school results. “he later decided to bring him to the hospital, but the child showed no signs of life,” he added.

Medical professionals confirmed that Yusuar experienced significant trauma to his chest, abdomen, and limbs, leading to fatal internal injuries. His brutal and senseless killing has left the community of la plata, in southern Colombia, in a state of shock and grief.

The authorities swiftly captured caicedo, who is now facing charges of aggravated homicide. Law enforcement disclosed that he has a previous criminal record, encompassing offenses associated with drug trafficking and unlawful possession of firearms. He is still in custody before trial.

Michel Caicedo, Yosuar’s mother, was not granted permission to leave prison in Bogotá to attend her son’s funeral. Nevertheless, her fellow inmates pooled their resources to guarantee that her body could be transported to the capital for a dignified burial on Tuesday.

The authorities reiterated their commitment to preventing violence against children, underscoring the ongoing initiatives to address and eradicate such abuse in Colombia. The inquiry is still ongoing.
