A young child, aged five, is being celebrated for his heroic actions that ensured the safety of his family of nine during a harrowing incident when he woke up to flames near his bed on a Sunday morning.

On that unfortunate Saturday morning, an electrical fire erupted in the apartment occupied by Noah and his two-year-old sister, Lily. Noah quickly grabbed his sister and their family dog, sensed danger, and immediately fled to the window. According to a GoFundMe campaign set up to help the family with expenses, Noah, Lily, and their faithful dog managed to escape the house through a window and Noah then returned to his aunt’s house to help pay family members a left out for safety reasons.

The Bartow County Fire Department expressed their admiration on Tuesday, declaring, “Our hero! 5-year-old Noah Woods awoke to a bedroom engulfed in flames. With no other exit available, he safely guided himself and his 2-year-old sister out of the window to escape the fire. Afterward, he went back inside the house to inform the remaining family members.”

Thankfully, all nine family members escaped the house unscathed, with only a minor burn on Noah’s wrist. Chief Dwayne Jamison of the BCFD will honor Noah as an Honorary Bartow County Firefighter and present him with a Lifesaving Award on Friday. David Woods, Noah’s grandfather, remarked, “If it wasn’t for Noah, I mean, we were all asleep, so we wouldn’t have known what was going on. We could’ve all lost our lives.”

While the family now faces the task of rebuilding their completely destroyed home, they are grateful that everyone is safe, thanks to Noah’s quick thinking. David expressed his gratitude, saying, “If it wasn’t for Noah, we may not be here today.”
