She seems to have spent most of her life crocheting, starting at age 5.
“My grandmother taught me to knit when I was five years old and it has been one of my biggest passions in life ever since,” she said.
“In 2017 I started an Instagram account to share pictures of my knitting and a year later I started my own YouTube channel where I recently shared knitting tutorials for beginners.”
Lindberg and her partner decided to tie the knot in late June, and she immediately thought it would be amazing to knit her wedding dress and film the process for a YouTube video.
“My partner and I decided to get married at the end of June and although I knew it would be a stressful process given the short time (6 weeks) until our September wedding, I thought it would be great to knit my wedding dress and record the experience for a YouTube video.
But I thought it might be the best YouTube video ever, so I paid about $290 for thirty balls of pure white silk yarn and got to work.”
Despite being a skilled knitter, Lindberg acknowledged that there were numerous difficulties along the way. For the next forty-five days, she made sure to devote all her efforts to the knitting process.
Almost all I did for the next forty-five days was knitting. I had to wait for all the other video ideas before focusing on this one piece and it took me about 200 hours to complete the design,” she said.
She only spent $290 on the dress and was very happy with how it turned out when she finally got to wear it.
I only had four days to rest before the wedding and by the time I finished the dress I was exhausted and angry. But I felt such relief when I wore it to the ceremony and I’m really happy with how it turned out,” she said.
But the best thing? Her husband thought it was great!
“My partner, who was a little skeptical at first about how achievable it would be for me to make a whole dress in such a short time, thought it looked great too.”
Lindberg wasn’t prepared for the favorable response she received after posting her vlog showing the steps involved in making the outfit. However, Lindberg’s video blog detailing the creation of her wedding dress has received over 3.3 million views and several encouraging comments. It became one of her most popular vlogs.
“I’ve been pleased to see how positively people have responded to it and that it has inspired some commenters to one day make their wedding dresses (which I think is possible for people with less knitting experience, I’d just recommend that come closer to six months than six weeks!), she stated.
That’s when she got the idea to set out to dispel the myth that knitting is only for older people.
“I think the success of the video fueled my mission to dispel the myth that knitting is something only grannies do in rocking chairs,” she said.
