Batt opted to utilize social media influencers such as Dylan Mulvaney to endorse the product. Unfortunately, this approach failed to resonate with Bud Light’s primary demographic, which comprises rural, white, male, and heterosexual customers, resulting in a nationwide boycott and a substantial decline in sales.
The company’s problems didn’t end there. They now have to deal with thousands of unsold kegs of Bud Light that are set to expire. Anheuser-Busch has decided to dump the kegs, incurring millions of dollars in costs.
In response to this wastage, Republican Representative Lauren Boebert suggested that the company donate the product to the less fortunate who are living on the streets. Boebert made a controversial remark, saying that “maybe if they drink enough, they’ll get off meth,” and expressed her excitement at the idea of a wild street party. However, her statement drew criticism for its insensitivity and lack of compassion toward those who are struggling with addiction and homelessness.
It’s worth noting that Boebert’s recent focus has been on learning English as a second language, and she has faced criticism for her public speaking abilities. Despite her questionable remarks, the issue of dumping unsold products highlights the need for businesses to consider sustainable practices and explore alternative solutions to minimize waste.
