Sergeant Harkness encountered a homeless individual seeking financial assistance on a street corner. Touched by empathy, he extended a ride to the man and provided him with some money for sustenance. However, what started as a gesture of goodwill soon escalated into a violent altercation. Upon entering the vehicle, the homeless man unexpectedly initiated a brutal assault on the sergeant, inflicting scratches and strikes to the face.

Sergeant Harkness was taken completely by surprise, unable to react quickly as the situation worsened. His injuries were severe, and it seemed as though the attack could potentially be fatal. 

That’s when a bystander stepped in.

When he persisted in being a threat, she discharged a second bullet, hitting the suspect and effectively stopping the attack.

Thanks to her quick thinking and bravery, sergeant harkness was able to avoid further harm. The sheriff from Dawson County commended her bravery, describing her as a true hero.
