Celebrating 15 Years in the Industry as the Pioneer Behind Chicago’s Largest Construction Company Led by a Black Woman

Introducing Sashe Ivy, the visionary behind Pink Hard Hatz Construction, a Chicago-based construction enterprise proudly owned by a Black woman. Pink Hard Hatz Construction, dedicated to shattering industry stereotypes and delivering top-notch service, is marking a significant milestone.

Reflecting on her remarkable 15-year journey within the construction and real estate sector, Ivy recalls the pervasive absence of women in the field. Surprisingly, statistics from the U.S. Bureau of Labor indicate that women make up just slightly less than 11% of the construction labor force. It was during one such male-dominated meeting that Ivy resolved to become a catalyst for change. She shared her thoughts with ABC 7 News, stating, “I found myself in yet another all-male contractors’ meeting, wondering about the potential of women in this industry.”

Motivated by this realization, Ivy took the bold step of establishing Pink Hard Hatz Construction, a fully-fledged construction company with a commitment to excellence and inclusivity. She remains deeply involved in every project, personally overseeing each endeavor from inception to completion. Presently, Pink Hard Hatz stands as Chicago’s foremost female minority-owned construction enterprise. Ivy remarked, “I consistently have projects lined up because it’s becoming evident that people, especially women and seniors, seek a female presence. They’re tired of exploitation.”

Furthermore, Ivy has forged a partnership with Chicago Women in Trades, a nonprofit organization dedicated to encouraging women’s participation in various trade careers. Together, they aspire to create a lasting impact, empowering women across all facets of society.
