College Student Advocates for Love and Raises Funds to Adopt Abandoned 3-Month-Old Baby

A journey that will change his life forever when he returns to his native Haiti.

Upon returning to Haiti in 2017, Texas State University student Jimmy Amisial had no idea how radically his life would change.

A 22-year-old traveling to celebrate the New Year arrived and saw a crowd of people gathered around a pile of garbage.

Amisial told CNN, “When I came to the area where people were making noise, I saw a child.”

It screamed among a pile of trash, he said, and not a single person wanted to do anything about it. He speculated that this was probably due to the widespread belief that a child could be cursed or possessed by a demon. But Amisial didn’t think twice.

He wasn’t dressed. After spending several hours there, he was covered in fire ants. He told the outlet that as soon as I picked him up, he stopped crying.

He then took the three-month-old home to his mother, who tried to comfort him and treat the bed bug bites he had acquired. He was asked if he wanted to become the boy’s legal representative the next day when the police turned up, as no one had come forward to report him.

“I took a leap of faith by saying yes, even though I didn’t know how I was going to be able to take care of him,” he continued.

Although Amisial had to return to the United States because of the student visa he had, the child, whom he called Emilio Angel Jeremiah, remained in his mother’s care. Amisial was then forced to interrupt his studies to work part-time as a gardener and delivery helper to contribute to the boy’s education.

The official adoption process for Emilio was started by Amisial in 2019, but it was costly and time-consuming. Adoption can take up to five years and cost upwards of $31,000, according to estimates. Despite this, Amisial, who Emilia describes as a “joyful” young man, stays in touch with him through frequent video chats.

He likes to watch Tom and Jerry, sing and play the guitar. He is a really happy young man who likes to play sports. “He plays basketball and football,” he noted. He immediately struck a chord with my mom and me. He calls me “Dad”. I still think of myself as his father, even though I’m only his temporary guardian.

Amisial started a GoFundMe campaign for their friendship to raise the money needed to complete the adoption process and has already raised more than $150,000. Amisial also planned how she would spend the additional funds.

We will try to complete Emilio’s adoption with the help of your donations. Pay for Emilio’s education, help local orphanages, needy families, and young people in the area, as well as maybe pay off my school costs and the debt I have on my student loans. Amisial said on Facebook: “With you, anything is possible.

Although Amisial does not know what the future holds, he is optimistic.

“One thing I know is that you can never go wrong when you choose to love. “It was those supernatural moments and interventions to show love, clarity and show the world that we can do better,” he claimed on the site GoFundMe.

The only hope he has for Emilia, he told CNN, is that his life will get better: “I want him to smile.” I want to show him how to love and even though he was abandoned, I want him to know that he is not alone.

Jimmy’s greatest hope is to give Emilio a better future and a life full of smiles. Despite the abandonment he experienced at such a young age, Jimmy wants Emilio to know he is not alone. Through her unwavering love and support, she aims to teach Emilio the transformative power of love and the importance of caring for others.

As Jimmy continues the adoption process and works to provide Emilio with a stable and loving home, his story serves as a reminder that acts of love and compassion can create a wave of positive change. In a world that often seems chaotic and divided, Jimmy’s devotion to Emilio exemplifies the resilience of the human spirit and the potential for a better future when we choose love above all else.
