Coroner confirms 11-year-old girl found dead in River Thames did not drown

Although the official findings suggest that accidental immersion led to kaliyah’s untimely demise, there are still unanswered questions surrounding the incident.

Eyewitnesses claimed to have spotted two children in close proximity, seemingly in need of assistance, but the circumstances leading up to Kaliyah’s tragic entry into the water remain uncertain.

The investigation is ongoing to determine if there were any additional factors contributing to the incident, such as the lack of immediate rescue and the involvement of other individuals or their knowledge of the situation.

In the wake of this tragic incident, there is a growing demand for a thorough examination of safety protocols along the riverbank and an investigation into the factors that contributed to this heart-wrenching tragedy.

An investigation into the passing of Kaliyah Coa commenced at the east London coroner’s court on May 2, with coroner Graeme Irvine disclosing the preliminary results, as reported by b5c.

The 11-year-old girl’s body was found at a maritime quay on the morning of April 13, almost two weeks after she was reported missing on March 31.

Officials mentioned that kaliyah had been absent from school that day and was observed entering the water near the barge house causeway. It is believed she entered the river to retrieve a lost shoe and tragically died shortly afterward due to the cold water temperatures. ‘the effect of being in cold water would have caused unconsciousness and death relatively swiftly,’ Irvine explained in court.

Initial postmortem findings supported this theory, suggesting that kaliyah did not pass away due to drowning. The initial cause of death was recorded as ‘immersion,’ and additional tests are still being conducted to confirm the exact cause.

Due to the classification of her death as ‘unnatural,’ a formal inquest hearing was required.

A witness claimed to have seen two children nearby, trying to seek assistance when Kaliyah entered the water.

In a statement to the BBC, Kaliyah’s family revealed that she had attended a birthday celebration and never made it back home.
