“Dad Issues Ultimatum Due to Daughter’s Exclusion of Siblings and Their Families from Her Wedding”

In a heartfelt account shared on the r/AITA subreddit, a father poured out his mixed emotions about his daughter’s upcoming wedding. The story delved into a family rift that arose over the absence of wedding invitations for the daughter’s gay siblings, Tom and Alex. The father, using the alias u/Mammoth_Inside_2441, was faced with a difficult ultimatum: either support his daughter’s decision not to invite her brothers, or oppose the exclusion of the family from such an important event.

he then explained how his daughter Casey, who has been seeing Max for four years, was getting married. The OP mentioned that he is paying for most of the wedding because Max’s parents are out of the country and can’t afford to rate much because of the exchange.

Casey was not present when the father discovered that his gay children, Tom and Alex, had not received invitations to the wedding like his sister and other children. They had a family reunion.

That’s when the OP commented, “I immediately saw red.” He confronted his daughter at that point and scolded her for not inviting her brothers to her wedding because of their gender and life choices. He was shocked to learn that Casey had been their support system her entire life.

He then learned that she had to leave them uninvited because her future in-laws were upset with her siblings’ lifestyle. She wanted her father to know that their decision was not in accordance with their culture.

Then her father issued an ultimatum: “I told her if that’s the case, I’m not going to walk her down the aisle and get out of paying for her wedding, because she can’t exclude her family like that when they’ve done nothing wrong and if her future legal opinion is for not so important that they can pay for the wedding.”

Her daughter sobbed after hearing his statement and put the phone to his face. The rest of the family supports the father in this situation and his wife is inconsolable because no one could have predicted his daughter’s behavior.

Here are some comments from Redditors.

  1. I am on the fathers side. Why would you listen to the in laws way of thinking especially when they are not paying for the wedding and live far away. Choosing them over family because her brothers live their lives they chose should not matter. The bride to be should just tell them if they don’t approve then they should not come and the future groom should stand with her.
