Charli expressed her sadness at not being able to enjoy her 12-week pregnancy like most other mothers.
I was waiting in line for a procedure called chorionic villus sampling, which is similar to amniocentesis and involves inserting a large needle into the abdomen to take a sample of the placenta, which has a 2% miscarriage rate, to analyze the baby’s genetic makeup.
They had to wait to find out which of the four options their third child had because their two girls, Tully, 2, and Tilba, 4, both have one of two types of dwarfism.
Charli elaborated in a post on Instagram:
1. Our unborn child would be of normal height.
2. Like me, our child would be born with achondroplasia, a form of dwarfism.
3. Our child would be born with the same type of dwarfism as Cullen, geleophysic dysplasia.
4. According to all medical experts, our child would inherit both genetic mutations, known as “double dominant dwarfism”, which would be fatal at birth. If that happened, I would have the option to either continue and see how things progress, or terminate the pregnancy.
The truth about their attitude, according to Charli, is that they’re waiting “if I bring the little one into the world in March 2021 or if his journey ends here.”
She addresses the criticism she received as a result of living her life so openly in her work.
