Fashion designer Galia Lahav has revealed that Olympic gold medalist Simone Biles was initially hesitant about wearing a ball gown to her wedding ceremony.
According to the fashion designer, the gold medalist wore a ball gown to her wedding until Lahav convinced her otherwise: “I love that we were able to surprise her.”

According to Lahav, “Simone came out knowing exactly what she wanted and what she wasn’t comfortable with,” in an exclusive interview with PEOPLE. And when she wore a princess gown with a fitted corset top, she finally shocked herself. I told her the secret was to add a high slit so shorter women could wear princess dresses.
Lahav continues, “It gives the dress the perfect proportions, elongates the overall figure, and accentuates her legs! It was such a great way to give her variety in her look!”
Biles and NFL player Jonathan Owens, 27, married in a small courtroom in April before exchanging vows on Saturday in Cabo San Lucas.
When it was almost time to go, my heart was pounding out of my chest because I felt so bad all day. Speaking to Vogue about the 144-guest event, Biles, 26, admitted: “I’ve never been more scared in my life.
Simone told the high fashion portal: “I was scared to wear a ball gown because I’m so small, but it fits amazingly.” The leg cut was really important. In my mind, it was to give my figure more length. In my opinion, this is how brides should feel: opulent, stunning, and a little responsible.
After initially accepting two dresses, “our GIMAYA and MAYA dresses,” Lahav says Biles ended up choosing four outfits for the celebrations because she “fell in love” with all the designs after going back, wearing them, and discovering more.
Additionally, Biles was wearing two pairs of Lahav’s shoes. “Astrid White for the ceremony and Astrid Silver for the welcome party,” the announcer said.
Lahav describes working with the gymnast as “an absolute dream come true”.
He exclaims, “She was SO sweet and charming!” It was great to spend her final fitting moments with her because she lit up the room when she walks in! She put a lot of trust in us and I appreciate that. The whole process was just pleasant and easy. I wish her a life full of joy, endless prosperity, and love in the years to come.
Biles arrived at her rehearsal in a mini Galia Lahav JILL to kick off the wedding festivities in Cabo San Lucas. Featuring a beaded fringe, asymmetrical hemline, and spaghetti straps, the glamorous mini-dress was perfect for dancing.
She wore a personalized Galia Lahav GIMAYA dress during the wedding ceremony on Saturday. “Adding the slit helps with a little more body exposure and when walking, it just lightens the dress and gives it some flexibility,” says Lahav.
Then, to spice up her evening at the reception, MAYA’s tailored, body-hugging gown featured sheer panels.
She ended her evening with a party outfit suitable for dancing. She wore Lahav’s personalized G-502, which glittered everywhere she went, catching the light.
