In a touching and deeply personal turn of events, Elon Musk’s daughter has revealed her intention to cut all ties with her father.
In court records filed in April, Elon Musk’s daughter said she wants to cut all ties with her father completely.
Shortly after turning 18, the adolescent girl applied for a name change, gender recognition, and a new birth certificate.
Her new name will be Vivian Jenna Wilson. Her mother, Justine Musk, went by this last name. Documents were filed by Vivian in LA County. She cited a change in her gender identification as one of her reasons for the changes and also mentioned her strained relationship with her father.
According to court documents, the reasons for the name change were “gender identity and the fact that I no longer live with and do not wish to be related to my biological father in any way, shape, or form.”
Elon drew criticism in 2020 when he tweeted about his dislike of pronouns, although neither he nor Vivian have publicly addressed their feud.

Elon wrote “Pronouns suck” on his social media profile in July of that year, but later removed it after Grimes, his on-again, off-again girlfriend, called him out. At this point, the singer wrote to him on Twitter: “I love you but please turn off your phone or [call] me.” “I can’t stand the hate. I’m begging you to stop. I know this is not in your heart.”
In December 2020, five months later, the billionaire posted a cartoon depicting a soldier with blood on his face, wearing the phrase “I love to oppress” on his head. The caption of the cartoon said, “When you put s/he on our resume.”
Elon tweeted a few days later: “Absolutely pro-trans, but all these pronouns are an aesthetic nightmare.”
He went on to explain his remarks by noting that his company, Tesla, previously ranked first in the Corporate Equality Index, an annual ranking of the best workplaces for those who identify as LGBTQ+.
Elon Musk’s tweet mocking pronouns is the exact opposite of what inclusive leadership looks like today, the organization’s president, Alphonso David, noted in a separate statement. In addition, it clearly deviates from the best practices that we suggest to companies. Musk should apologize.
From 2000 to 2008, Elon was married to Justine, Vivian’s mother. Griffin, Vivian’s twin brother, and Kai, Saxon, and Damian, three 16-year-old triplets, are shared by the ex-husbands in addition to their daughter.
Nevada, another child born to Elon and Justine in 2002, tragically died of SIDS at just 10 weeks old.
A hearing on Vivian’s name change is scheduled for this Friday. Elon and Grimes have two children together: 6-month-old Exu Dark Siderael, often known as Y, and 2-year-old X AE A-Xii, also known as X.
This family’s story highlights the complexities of personal identity, the challenges of parent-child relationships, and the importance of empathy and understanding in managing these sensitive issues. As the legal process unfolds, it is an opportunity to reflect on the importance of mutual respect and the preservation of individual rights, especially when it comes to matters of personal identity and self-expression. The journey ahead of Vivian, her family, and their respective paths is a testament to the depth and complexity of the human experience and underscores the importance of love, acceptance, and growth in moments of transformation.
