Isaiah Reid, Brandon Gresham and Jaime Hernandez were identified as the three masked teenagers. When police first reported the boys, two of them were 16 and the third was 15.
The results of the autopsy will not be available for several weeks, according to Coroner George Levett. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is conducting autopsies.
According to Rockdale County Sheriff Eric Levett, who spoke to 11Alive, the three teenagers planned to rob the homeowner and his family in the middle of the night.
“When deputies arrived, they found masks on [the faces of the deceased] young men,” he said.
The incident happened in Conyers, off Flat Shoals Road at White Oak Court, sometime after 4 a.m.
Before one of the intended victims returned fire, the sheriff said, one of the suspects brandished a gun and opened fire on the residents.
According to a family member, Hernandez, 15, and Reid, 16, were brothers.
The homeowner said he was not yet ready to comment on the incident through the neighbor.
To determine if the homeowner will be charged or if it was a case of self-defense, the sheriff said the situation is still under investigation.
