Father Crafts a Handmade Backpack for His Child Due to Financial Constraints

We often tend to overlook the essential school items our children require until they express their preferences. For example, every student attending school requires a backpack to transport their books, supplies, lunches, and other necessary items throughout a typical school day. As parents, we often take these items for granted.

Our concerns often revolve around whether our child desires a specific style of backpack (the right design, brand, etc.). It’s truly challenging to conceive of a situation where someone lacks the means to purchase a backpack for their child.

According to McGill Media, Ny Keng resides in a small village in Cambodia, where many people grapple with poverty. Ny, at the age of five, lost his only backpack during a recent school trip to Thailand. He had no alternative and urgently required a backpack to transport his school books and supplies daily to his village’s primary school.

The family, working as migrant labourers, faces financial constraints, and Ny’s father was heartbroken when he realised he couldn’t replace Ny’s backpack. Nonetheless, he remained resolute and was unwavering in his decision not to send his son to school without a backpack. He decided to get innovative!

Ny’s father stayed up the entire night, weaving a complete rucksack using blue raffia string he had at home. Ny proudly wore his new bag to school the next morning, never mentioning the loss of his original backpack.

The other students and teachers were amazed by Ny’s new bag. Ny’s teacher was particularly touched by his father’s unwavering commitment and incredible creativity, snapping photos of Ny proudly carrying his new bag. The teacher noted that despite Ny’s father’s modest means, his dedication to his children was truly remarkable.
