Father of 5-year-old murder victim dies without recovering daughter’s body

Paul Jones, the father of five-year-old April Jones, who was brutally murdered, died without ever finding out about his daughter’s tragic fate. 

In 2018, six years after April was abducted in Machynlleth, Wales—one of the most shocking child abduction cases in British history—Jones, aged 55, passed away after a prolonged struggle with a brain illness. April vanished on October 1, 2012, after being observed entering a car near her residence.

Mark Bridger, who was 46 years old at the time, was apprehended following the investigation. He was apprehended the day after April’s disappearance, after being identified as the driver of the vehicle based on the description provided. Initially, Bridger pleaded not guilty to charges of murder, child abduction, and perverting the course of justice but later admitted that he was ‘probably responsible’ for April’s death. 

During the investigation, forensic experts discovered bone fragments and blood samples that matched April’s DNA in Bridger’s fireplace. However, Bridger claimed he couldn’t recall what he did with her body and stated that he had accidentally hit the girl with his car while under the influence.

Despite the evidence, April’s remains were never found, with authorities assuming they may have been scattered in the rural area near Bridger’s residence. 

Bridger received a life sentence after being found guilty on all charges. Paul Jones passed away in Swansea at a specialized medical center. 

On Tuesday, May 13, jazz jones shared the devastating news on social media, stating, ‘My brother and I want to inform everyone that our father, Paul Jones, passed away this morning at the age of 54.’ It was completely unexpected, and we are all in disbelief.

Jazz confided in the sun that the family is grappling with the aftermath of his passing: ‘we have so much to digest in just one day.’ Our family is heartbroken, but we are slowly accepting the reality that our father is no longer alive. For his sake, we are not disclosing any information about how he passed away. Dad desired solitude at the end, and as a family, we need time to mourn. 

Jazz had previously spoken out about the pain of losing her little sister. ‘losing someone like this, when you don’t know what happened, when you have nothing to bury or say goodbye to, your whole world just falls apart,’ she said. ‘losing anyone is a deeply emotional time.’. 

She added, ‘at first, I was angry because all I wanted was to say goodbye.’ However, I soon came to the realization that there was no point in clinging to hope, as he would never disclose any information to us. I chose not to invest my energy in it—it was not worth the effort.’.
