Father of murdered 5-year-old girl passes away without ever recovering his daughter’s body

Paul Jones, the father of the tragically murdered schoolgirl April Jones, has died without ever finding out what happened to his daughter. 

Jones, who was 55 years old, passed away after a long battle with a brain disease he acquired in 2018—six years after his abduction in Machynlleth, Wales, which remains one of the most terrifying child disappearances in British history. 

April, who was only five years old, went missing on October 1, 2012, after being spotted entering a car near her residence.

Her vanishing caused one of the biggest police operations in the uk’s history and garnered extensive national attention, including a public plea from then-prime minister david cameron. 

The investigation resulted in the arrest of Mark Bridger, who matched the description of the man seen operating the vehicle. He was apprehended the day after April disappeared. 

Initially, Bridger pleaded not guilty to charges of child abduction, murder, and perverting the course of justice, but later admitted that he was “probably responsible” for April’s death. 

Authorities discovered bone fragments and traces of blood that matched April’s DNA in Bridger’s fireplace.

Bridger admitted to striking the girl with his vehicle while under the influence but insisted he had no recollection of disposing of her remains. Despite extensive searches, April’s remains were never discovered. Authorities believe he might have dispersed them in the surrounding rural areas. 

Bridger was found guilty on all counts and was sentenced to a lifetime in prison. 

Paul Jones spent his last years in a specialized hospital unit in Swansea. 

His step-daughter, jazz jones, confirmed his passing on tuesday (may 13) with a heartfelt post on social media: ‘it is with broken hearts that my brother and i inform everyone that our dad (paul jones) passed away in the early hours this morning. he was a great man and a loving father. we will miss him dearly.’ It came as a complete surprise, and we are all in disbelief,’ as reported by the daily star.

Jazz told the sun that the family is still trying to come to terms with their loss. ‘it’s only been 24 hours, it’s a lot to process,’ she said. ‘as a family, we’re heartbroken, but we need time to grieve. Dad didn’t want any unnecessary attention towards the end, as he valued his privacy, and we want to honor that. 

Jazz previously discussed her younger sister’s tragic death, expressing: ‘losing someone is always difficult, but when you don’t have any closure, no way to mourn, and no way to say goodbye, your entire world comes crashing down.’.
