The tragedy that took place on a highway in Illinois over the weekend has resulted in the loss of eight lives, including a family of six and a young family friend. The father, Thomas Dobosz, who survived the initial crash, has now passed away due to the injuries he sustained. The collision occurred when Dobosz’s Chevrolet van collided head-on with an Acura TSX that was traveling in the wrong direction on Interstate 90.
The collision was so forceful that it resulted in a catastrophic blaze, giving no opportunity for Jennifer Fernandez, the Acura’s driver, Dobosz’s wife, their four kids, and their 13-year-old family friend to survive. The mishap is currently being probed, and it’s uncertain why the Acura was traveling in the wrong direction.
On Wednesday, the Illinois State Police confirmed that Dobosz had also succumbed to his injuries, leaving behind a devastated family and community. An online campaign that had raised more than $100,000 by Thursday announced the tragic news and urged people to pray for the family during this difficult time.
The fundraiser identified the family members who were killed in the accident as Thomas’s 31-year-old wife, Lauren Dobosz, and their children, Ella (5), Nicholas (7), Lucas (8), and Emma (13), along with their friend, Katriona Koziara (13). Katriona, who was a bright and optimistic young girl, has also been mourned by her own community.
The loss of eight lives in this tragic incident has left behind a void that can never be filled. The family and friends of those who passed away are grieving deeply and could use all the support and prayers that they can get during this difficult time.
