In a heartwarming turn of events, a Florida firefighter shared the heartwarming story of how he and his wife adopted a newborn baby girl who was left in a Safe Haven baby box.
A Florida firefighter who fell in love with a baby girl placed in a Safe Haven baby box has tenderly revealed he adopted her.
According to Today, on January 5, the rescuer, who chose to remain unnamed, heard the alarm go off at 2 a.m. and peered into the compartment.
The sound suggested the newborn had been abandoned in the ward’s Safe Haven baby box, a mechanism that allows someone to surrender a baby who is incapable of care.
The fireman went to check, even though there were frequent false alarms; as he did he noticed a sweet child gently holding the bottle and staring at him. He would later call her Zoey.
The man said that after seeing young Zoey “chilling” with a small bottle in her hand, he “picked her up and held her,” adding: “We locked eyes and that was it. I have adored her ever since.
The firefighter, who is also a paramedic, and his wife told the newspaper that they have been trying to conceive for more than a decade.
“I didn’t call my wife right away because I didn’t want to wake her up, but I knew she would be on board,” he said of his decision to adopt the child. After bringing the baby to the hospital, he sent a letter to the staff outlining his wife’s difficulties with childbirth and the couple’s readiness to adopt Zoey.
“I stated that my wife and I had been trying to conceive a child for ten years. I informed them that we were registered to adopt in Florida and that we had completed all our programs there. “A child was all we needed.
The firefighter recalled how his wife started to cry when he finally told her what had happened after returning from work.
“I was like, ‘Don’t get too excited yet,'” he recalled. “My biggest worry was that the child would leave and the message I wrote wouldn’t stay with her. It’s been a really hectic couple of days.”
But luckily, the couple was approved to adopt Zoey and she became their legal daughter in April.
The new father declared: “How I found her – this is how God helped us.”
According to Safe Haven Baby Box, there are already 148 functioning devices in the U.S., and 40 other municipalities are trying to install a device in a neighborhood hospital or fire station. At least 31 babies have been safely surrendered at Safe Haven baby boxes across the country.
According to the firefighter, he shared his story with the newspaper in hopes that Zoey’s birth mother would read it and take comfort in knowing her child is in a loving home.
He said: “We want her to know that her child is cared for and loved without words.
The firefighter hopes that after sharing their story, Zoey’s birth mother will find comfort in knowing that her daughter is cared for and deeply loved. He wants her to understand that they are providing a nurturing and safe environment for Zoey. It’s a message of reassurance and gratitude that she hopes will reach her.
For this firefighter and his wife, adopting Zoey is a dream come true and a testament to their unwavering love and determination to become parents. Their journey, marked by resilience and hope, now shines brightly with the presence of their beloved daughter. Zoey’s story is a testament to the power of love, compassion and the remarkable ways lives can intersect and transform.
