In a cozy corner of a quiet neighborhood between the houses lived a remarkable grandmother named Edith. She was a pillar of warmth and wisdom who was known and loved by everyone in her community. Edith saw many seasons of life, each of which left its mark on her kind heart and kind spirit. But perhaps the most beautiful chapter of her life began when her granddaughter, 12-year-old Alice Johnson, entered her world.
A bright and lively girl, Alice came from a modest household where her parents Sheila and Ronald ran a small but prosperous bakery. Sheila’s secret recipes set their bakery apart and they worked diligently to provide a comfortable life for their beloved daughter. However, the demands of their business sometimes meant that they could not spend as much time with Alice as they would have liked.
But Sheila and Ronald couldn’t devote enough time to Alice because they were working parents and understood how important it was to keep their businesses running so Alice wouldn’t miss out.
Alice stayed at her grandmother Edith’s house for her entire summer vacation and the older woman enjoyed having Alice with her. Together they baked cookies, tended to Edith’s mini-garden where they would plant fruits and vegetables, and Edith made Alice’s favorite mushroom soup. Overall, they enjoyed their time together a lot.
Both Alice and Edith cherished their short time as young girls during the holidays. Alice wouldn’t trade Gran Edith for anything because she was so happy! And one year Alice was eager to find out from Edith how well her grandmother sewed and crocheted.
“Grain!” One day Alice said excitedly to Edith. “I want to learn to knit just like you! I always get such beautiful scarves from you! I’d love to make you one too.”
Edith is glowing. Oh, is it true? Alice, do you adore my knitted scarves?
Yes, Grandma, of course I do! Please do it! I want to pick up knitting! Thank you, grandma.
Good, good, good! Have you seen my nightstand drawer? Edith smiled and asked. “When you open it, there will be a box. Grab her quick and I’ll teach you how to knit, okay?
“Yeah! Grandma, you’re the best.” Alice chirped as she ran to Edith’s room for the box she wanted.
Alice’s eyes were glued to the screen as Edith opened the box to reveal its contents. She demonstrated her assortment of yarns in different colors, knitting needles, and other necessary knitting supplies. She also showed Alice a number of preliminary knitting pieces she had created.

Since Alice wanted to start knitting, Edith began to teach her how to do it every evening for two hours from that day. To Edith’s dismay, Alice proved to be a quick learner and within two weeks had produced her first knitted item – a folded headband.
Edith was truly impressed with Alice’s dedication to her knitting classes. When she went to Alice’s room one night to say goodnight, she saw that she was dozing and holding her half-knit sweater.
No matter how small or large, skill should always be respected.
Alice’s innocence made Edith smile. “Oh no!” She really loves it!” she thought as she quietly took the knitted piece from Alice’s fingers and placed it on the bedside table. She kissed her cheek, said goodnight, and left the room.
Alice finished her first knitted sweater over the next few days and it was flawless. When Alice showed it to Edith, she couldn’t believe she had made it.
“Honey, this is absolutely gorgeous!” Edith praised her. I am really happy for you.
Alice frowned nonetheless. “Thanks, Grandma! I hope I can stay with you a little longer so you can show me how scarves are made! She asked innocently, “Can I skip school for a few days?
The next day, Alice left Edith’s house as her vacation was coming to an end. Despite her quick skills, Edith was only able to learn to knit sweaters and headbands due to time constraints. The young girl was eager to learn more but was unhappy to see her vacation come to an end so quickly.
Alice is comforted by Edith after realizing how desperate she is. “Alice, I’ll definitely teach you next time! I mean it! It’s not a good idea to skip class, darling.”
But I really don’t want to go, grandma! Tell mom and Dad that I’ll be a good girl and never cause them any trouble. Grandma, I’ll do anything! I would like to stay with you a little longer! PLEASE!”
“Sweetie, feel free to come visit whenever you want. I’ll ask Ronald to bring you here this weekend, okay? You should leave right away and start packing, though. Dad will pick you up early in the morning.” morning.
With tears in her eyes, Alice replied, “Fine, Grandma… as you say,” before heading to her room and starting to pack.
Ronald fetched Alice from Edith’s apartment the next morning. Edith felt bad seeing Alice so downcast as she left with a frown. She missed her so much that she also hesitated to let her go. A few days later, Edith decided to surprise Alice by picking her up from school because she couldn’t help but have a strong desire to see her.
Sheila and Ronald were alerted and she made it to Alice’s school in plenty of time. The school was full of students as soon as the dismissal bell rang. As Edith waited for Alice to emerge, she noticed something strange: a girl was wearing Alice’s handmade sweater. Because it had a tiny flower pattern on it that she had taught Alice, she couldn’t help but recognize it.
Soon after, she saw Alice running towards the girl.
To us, it resembles an angel in disguise.
“Alice!” Edith waved her hand as she shouted at her.
When Alice saw Edith, she and the other girl rushed to greet her. She hugged her and shouted, “GRAN!” Wow, I didn’t know you were going to pick me up today! Meet Cynthia, my friend, and grandma! I made her a sweater! Cynthia,” she said to the young lady. “This is Grandma Edith. I learned to knit from her! Do you remember I told you about her?
“Hello, ma’am. The older woman blushed nervously as Cynthia introduced herself as Alice’s friend.”
nice to meet you baby You can also call me Gran Edith if you want.
Cynthia said she lived nearby and would walk home when Edith asked if she could leave her at home. But Cynthia relented when Edith said she wouldn’t have any trouble.
When Edith asked Cynthia about her parents during their car ride, she revealed that her family was struggling financially. She was enrolled in school on a scholarship and her parents were day laborers.
The girl welcomed Edith to meet her parents when she got to Cynthia’s house. When Edith entered the house, she was shocked to see that Cynthia’s parents were wearing a similar knitted sweater and felt guilty for their miserable circumstances.
During the tea conversation, the couple admitted that the sweaters were gifts from Alice. The couple then offered Edith tea and biscuits. They expressed their gratitude to her and said that they needed warm clothes that month but could not buy them due to a limited budget.
While the girls were having fun in Cynthia’s room, Cynthia’s mother told Edith, “She’s like an angel in disguise to us.” “We wanted to personally thank her parents and meet them. We are so happy to have met you today.”

When Edith saw that her granddaughter was helping a struggling family, she was really proud. Cynthia wrapped her arms around Alice and gave her a warm hug, “Do you know how proud I am of you, baby?” how they left her home that day. You did a fantastic job supporting Alicia’s parents.
“Thanks, Grandma. However,” she paused. Grandma, I don’t believe it’s enough for them. Alice’s parents don’t take her to theme parks like my parents do, nor does she get pocket money. She claims that due to her parents’ extreme poverty, her scholarship cannot fully support her education. He might leave school soon. Can we help her somehow?
“Oh God,” Edith said. That’s not good. We should act.
That evening, Edith couldn’t stop thinking about Cynthia’s family. She was troubled by the thought of the young girl having to give up her education, so she decided to raise a substantial amount of money to help Cynthia’s family.
With the help of Ronald and Sheila, she set up a GoFundMe page for Cynthia’s family. She also started knitting sweaters and hats to sell to raise money.
Alice offered to help Edith on weekends and they quickly gained a reputation in their community for their hand-knitted goods.
In conclusion, we can say that the decline of the Aral Sea is a sharp reminder of the ecological consequences of human actions. The once prosperous and vast body of water has shrunk to a mere fraction of its original size due to irrigation projects and mismanagement. The environmental devastation caused by its disappearance has had far-reaching effects, including health problems and loss of livelihoods for local communities. Efforts to restore the sea have shown some progress, but the challenges are enormous and the southern region remains a barren wasteland. The story of the Aral Sea serves as a cautionary tale about the need for responsible environmental care and the long-term impact of human decisions on our planet.
