Even if you haven’t seen the movies, just mentioning his name can make you nostalgic and smile. As Mick Dundee, Hogan embodied a character that transcends the boundaries of the screen. He represented the quintessential Australian larrikin, the adventurer and hero we all secretly wish we could be.
You probably remember some famous moments from the movie. If not on the big screen, you’ve most likely seen them on YouTube.
But for many of us, Paul Hogan will forever be remembered as the young actor who portrayed Crocodile Dundee. Unfortunately, time marches on and Hogan is now having health issues.
Hogan, who is 83 years old, spoke of various health problems that greatly reduced his ability to live comfortably.
One of them is a form of fibrosis that has pushed on his kidney and grown on his aorta.
He was able to get some steroid treatment to fix the problem, but he said it caused his figure to degenerate. He continued to lose body fat as his muscles became leaner and leaner.
Although the treatment solved the problem, he said his muscles have shrunk and he now feels weak. While he admits that there have been some improvements and that he is trying to regain his body fat and muscle, his figure has changed from what it was when he was younger.
He admits that he is only held together by a string and that now his child needs to open glasses for him. “Eighty isn’t for sissies,” he continued, “because things start to fall apart.”
While some people look back on their youth with regret, Hogan is happy with how his life has turned out. He claims that he is not where he should be, but because of his gifted existence, he has no right to whine about anything.
