Health update after emergency surgery: ’14 new lesions discovered’

The 26-year-old found herself in Las Vegas for the Steve Irwin Gala on Saturday, May 10, when she was unexpectedly taken to the hospital for urgent surgery. 

Due to an unforeseen health crisis, she was unable to attend the event, where she had intended to pay tribute to her father and continue her family’s mission as wildlife warriors. 

Bindi’s younger brother, 21-year-old Robert Irwin, took the stage to represent her at the gala, reassuring everyone that Bindi had experienced a ruptured appendix. 

‘she’s going to be okay, but surgery — of all the things we were prepared for, that wasn’t one of them,’ he told people 

Robert also shared that their mother, terri irwin, 60, had skipped the gala to stay by bindi’s side at the hospital.’she’s just recovered from endometriosis, and now the appendix gives out,’ he said. ‘health is so important — it truly is.’.

Despite the excruciating pain, bindi had made plans to attend the gala. 

‘she came all the way to las vegas, ready to attend the gala, putting on a brave face despite the discomfort and pain, determined to go through with it,’ robert revealed 

‘but the surgeon told her, ‘no, your appendix has to come out ‘The well-being of the individual is of utmost importance.’. 

Shortly after her operation, bindi shared a touching video on Instagram, providing her followers with an update from her hospital room. 

‘hey guys, bindi here I wanted to express my gratitude to each and every one of you for your incredible well wishes. She had just emerged from surgery an hour ago, visibly exhausted but resolute.

‘They extracted my appendix.’ They also found and removed 14 new endometriosis lesions, and they kindly repaired my hernia as well.’. 

She added, ‘I apologize if I appear a bit disoriented in this video, but I wanted to inform you that I am on the path to recovery, progressing gradually with each step.’ I am incredibly fortunate to have an abundance of love from my stunning family. 

Chandler Powell, her husband of five years, immediately responded to her post, describing her as ‘the strongest person I know.’ Robert also chimed in, expressing his support by writing,’stay strong, Bindi. You are a warrior.’ ‘Adore you!’. 

This recent surgical procedure is a result of a prolonged struggle with endometriosis, a condition characterized by the growth of tissue resembling the uterine lining outside the uterus, leading to the formation of scar tissue. 

Bindi made her diagnosis public in March 2023, disclosing that she had experienced ‘unbearable exhaustion, discomfort, and queasiness’ for more than a decade. 

In a compelling Instagram post, she shared her experience of undergoing surgery: ‘entering the operating room was terrifying, but I knew I couldn’t continue living like this.’ They discovered 37 lesions, some of which were deep and challenging to remove, as well as a cyst filled with chocolate.

She remembered her surgeon’s surprising statement after the procedure: ‘how did you manage to endure this level of pain?’ 

In the ‘a life of greatness’ podcast, bindi shared that only a handful of individuals were aware of her actual state of health. 

‘the only ones who knew were my husband, my mom, and my brother Behind closed doors, I was struggling just to get through each day, she said. 

She also mentioned how doctors frequently disregarded her symptoms as irritable bowel syndrome, hormonal fluctuations, or simply ‘being a woman.’. 

‘the symptoms kept getting worse, and it took me so long to find help — a story that many women and girls know all too well,’ she added
