Family’s Final Journey Ends in Tragedy on CE-060
On the quiet morning of Sunday, July 16, the CE-060 highway between Caririaçu and Juazeiro do Norte became the scene of an unspeakable tragedy. A family from Várzea Alegre — Hérida Nascimento da Silva, Sebastião CÃcero Gomes, and their 3-year-old son, Miguel — lost their lives in a devastating accident.
The trio had set out for Juazeiro do Norte, where little Miguel was scheduled for a surgical procedure. Somewhere along their route, near SÃtio Piripiri, their vehicle left the road and plunged into a stream roughly five meters deep. By the time emergency teams arrived, the car was already submerged, and all three occupants had passed away.
Authorities have yet to determine the cause of the crash. The loss has shaken the community and reignited concerns about the safety of rural highways — especially stretches with poor visibility and minimal roadside protection.
