In a heartbreaking and completely unexpected tragedy, a New Jersey family is dealing with the sudden loss of their beloved 6-year-old daughter, Lucy Morgan.
What was supposed to be a fun and carefree vacation in Limerick, Maine quickly turned into every parent’s worst nightmare when a freak accident happened while playing badminton.
While the family was enjoying their time together, the broken rocket became a source of unimaginable grief when a piece of metal flew off and hit Lucy in the head, causing a life-changing brain injury. The events that followed unfolded at heartbreaking speed, leaving Lucy’s family in shock and disbelief.
A New Jersey family is mourning the heartbreaking loss of their 6-year-old daughter, Lucy Morgan, who tragically died in a freak accident while on vacation. The incident occurred when Lucy was watching her family play badminton.
During the game, the racket broke mid-swing and a piece of metal flew off the handle, striking Lucy in the head and causing a catastrophic brain injury.
Lucy’s father, Pastor Jesse Morgan, shared the devastating story on his New Creation Living blog. He recounted how June 1 began like any other day of their family vacation in Limerick, Maine, but ended in unimaginable tragedy. Jesse expressed his belief that his daughter was now with Jesus.
The family immediately realized the seriousness of Lucy’s injuries. Jesse explained that after being hit by a piece of metal, Lucy became unresponsive, though she continued to breathe on her own. His wife, Bethany Morgan, accompanied Lucy in an ambulance to a small hospital before she was airlifted to Maine Medical Center in Portland. There, doctors worked to save her life.
“When she arrived, she was rushed into surgery where part of her skull was removed to relieve pressure and address her injury,” Jesse wrote. “She coded during the procedure but they were able to revive her and complete the operation. However, the prognosis in the PICU was grim.’
Jesse said that Lucy recently expressed her desire to be with God. Just a month before the accident, Lucy told her parents that she wanted to be saved and live with God. Bethany talked to her about salvation and Lucy went to her room to pray.
“She went to her room and begged God to forgive her and said she believed in the death and resurrection of Jesus,” Jesse wrote. “What a gift that memory is to us.”
Despite intensive medical efforts, Lucy never recovered. The metal fragment caused devastating damage to her skull and brain. Doctors informed the family that her chances of survival were extremely slim.
In a heartbreaking update, Jesse announced Lucy’s death: “No blog post today. Lucy Lynn Morgan died this morning around 4:00 am and is now face to face with Jesus. Thank you for all the love and support you give us. This photo was taken earlier during our farewell.”
The day before his death, Jesse shared the family’s plight: “The terrible lack of brain activity in the last 48 hours confirms the reality that we are devastated. Even though she was in no pain, the indicators of brain death are staggering. We’ve sought second opinions, prayed for a miracle, and tried every option, but we know he’ll probably meet Jesus soon.
Since Lucy’s passing, the family has been surrounded by an outpouring of love and support. Friends and strangers alike honored Lucy’s memory and rallied behind the Morgans. Dan Cruver, Jesse’s former professor at Clarks Summit University, praised him in a heartfelt Facebook post.
“Jesse Morgan was one of my students 18 years ago when I was teaching Bible and theology,” Cruver wrote. “Some students stand out for their insightful questions and passion, and Jesse was one of them.
To help the family, they created a close-knit GoFundMe campaign that surpassed the original $100,000 goal and is now nearing $130,000 with over $125,000 in donations. Jill Anthony, an organiser, said: “This page exists to provide extraordinary financial support – covering food, accommodation, medical bills and anything else they need.”
In an update, Anthony wrote: “On June 5th, Lucy went to be with the Lord. Please continue to pray for the Morgans as they navigate the difficult days, weeks and years ahead without their precious Lucy.”
The tragic loss of Lucy Morgan has left a deep and painful void in her family’s lives, but her parents find comfort in knowing that she is now with God. During this ordeal, the Morgans’ faith and courage were unwavering, and their strength inspired countless people. As they navigate the overwhelming grief of losing their precious daughter, they continue to lean on their faith and the support of their community.
