‘And what about the clothes?’ she inquired 

‘Yeah, I agree with that,’ he responded after a brief pause

Cathy was perplexed. She and Alex’s father, Ian, were separated. Occasionally, Ian would purchase Alex gifts, but luxury items like these didn’t align with his usual style. There was an inexplicable sense of unease. 

Cathy reached out to Ian to verify. ‘It wasn’t me,’ he replied. ‘Perhaps Alex took up a part-time job?’

Cathy breathed out slowly. ‘why didn’t you inform me?’. 

Alex hesitated.’since I knew you were upset after the divorce.’ I did not wish to contribute further to that.

Cathy felt a little more sorrow. She hadn’t realized how much alex was feeling the burden of their evolving family dynamics. Despite her lingering resentment towards Lia for the surprise reunion, she also felt a sense of gratitude—Lia had been there for Alex when he needed support. 

The following day, Cathy requested Alex to invite Lia over. What started as an uncomfortable encounter evolved into a lengthy and meaningful discussion. Lia revealed the truth about her disappearance and the emotional burden she had been carrying. While Cathy wasn’t ready to completely forget everything, she appreciated the effort Lia was making.
