It all looked like a typical day until Edith received news that would change everything.
The phone call from the hospital broke her world as she learned that her mother had died. She knew a little that this heartbreaking moment would lead to my marriage and forced her to face the painful reality that she was emotionally abandoned.
This was followed by a number of events that would have questioned her to question a man she once trusted and loved. Would he get up on this occasion, or would his selfishness become a catalyst decision to change life?
Edith called her husband John to inform him that her mother had died. They were in the hospital because of their mother’s lung infection and died peacefully during the night.
After hearing the news, John rushed to the hospital. Edith was broken and had to be taken home. The following morning she started planning a funeral in the kitchen, but then realized that their planned holiday had to be canceled. She told John that the funeral would take place next week and that he should cancel his way to Hawaii.
John was angry and pointed out that their tickets were irreversible, which means they would lose thousands of dollars. Edith, still in the shock of browsing her mother, she replied, “John, my mother just died.”
He replied coldly and said he was “only her husband” and that no one would miss the funeral. Edith couldn’t believe her ears.
“Just your husband?” She asked, stunned.
John admitted that he was not good with emotional situations and decided to leave the day before the funeral. Meanwhile, Edith, consumed with grief, stayed at home while John enjoyed his way and shared pictures of his holiday on social media.
Edith then contacted a friend of the real estate agency and asked her to put her house for sale, even including John’s beloved car to the store – to which he was particularly proud of.
Two days later, John returned home and was shocked when he found that foreigners were checking his car. He attacked in and shouted at Edith.
She calmly explained that she was selling the house and, including the car, would help increase its value.
John still couldn’t understand the depth of his actions and continued shouting, “After all, I’m just your husband, isn’t you? No family, do you remember?”
Edith then gave him divorce papers. John was impressed. During the divorce proceedings, Edith took everything – a house, a car – and postponed John with nothing.
Eventually, Edith’s grief and heart break were complicated by John’s heartlessness and behavior focused on themselves. His inability to understand the emotional weight of the situation and its ignoring her pain led to the disintegration of their relationship.
When Edith decided to take things into her hands and sell her house and her beloved car, she showed that she would no longer tolerate his lack of empathy. The divorce was the final awakening for John, because he was nothing, a sharp reminder of the consequences of neglecting the emotional needs of those who care most about.
