It was a kind of blow that made you want to stay wrapped in blankets, far from the harsh reality of the world outside.
The bitter January air stretched through the streets like a sharp blade and Amy couldn’t help, but she felt the feeling of restlessness when she went to the car. The routine was predictable – another soon the beginning on a busy day.
Yet, as she approached her driveway, something attracted her eye, which would forever change the course of her life. The character lying still in the snow did not belong, and Amy’s curiosity – and perhaps even the touch of worrying – closer to it.
She knew a little that this meeting would unfold the secrets for a long time and led her along the way she could never expect.
In bitter January, Amy’s life turned unexpectedly. What began as an ordinary effort to work has turned into a deep path of self -knowledge, healing and transformation forces of love.
The first week of January brought with it harsh weather. Amy, who was reinforced on another insolent day, went to her car when something unusual was attracted to her on the edge of the driveway.
“Hey! Are you okay?” She called and hesitated as she approached.
The character remained still. At that moment her neighbor, Mr. Lewis, appeared with his dog. He stopped and looked carefully.
“It looks like a drunk or homeless man,” he murmured. “Best to leave it alone. Call the cops if you have to, but don’t engage. People are bringing trouble.”
“How can you be so cold?” Amy shot. “What if it was someone you loved, lying here in cold?”
“Turn around. Don’t say I warned you.”
“Ma’am? Do you hear me? Please give me a sign that you are alive!” Amy begged and furious looking for her phone.
The women’s eyes opened and whispered in a weak voice, “Note … for you. My coat … pocket.”
Amy stood frozen. “For me? How do you know my name?” She asked, confused. But before the woman could answer, her head continued forward and her body grew scary.
Panicated, Amy called 911. Minutes later, the rescuers arrived and rushed to the hospital.
When the ambulance left, Mr. Lewis returned. “He told you not to participate,” he murmured.
“Apathy is all you are able to do?” Amy burst, tears in her eyes. “What happened to basic human decency?”
In the hospital Amy was given a note from a woman. Her heart skipped the rhythm when she read it: “Amy, your real grandmother left you $ 500,000. Come to this address. Hurry up.”
Amy, confused, felt a mixture of distrust and suspicion. Can it be a scam? A cruel joke?
When she arrived at the address, the female voice burst as she whispered, “You came. I was afraid you wouldn’t do that.”
“Who are you?” Amy asked, her voice shakes. “How do you know me? What did you do in my house?”
The woman tried to speak. “I owe you the truth. I’m your real grandmother.”
Amy froze, shocked. “That’s impossible. My grandmother died before I was born.”
“That’s what your mother wanted you to believe. I’m alive, but I don’t deserve to be. I left her and I left you.”
Revelation hit Amy as a blow to the intestine. “Why? Why would she lie about it?”
“To protect you from me,” the woman replied.
“I was cruel, Amy. When your mother fell in love with your father, humble carpenter, I gave her an ultimatum: leave him or lose her heritage.
She trembled, the woman gave Amy another envelope. “That’s my will. All I have is yours. It’s not enough to replace the pain I caused, but it’s all I can give.”
Amy opened the envelope to find deeds, bank data and legal documents that transferred the entire property of her grandmother to her.
“I don’t want your money,” Amy said, tears running down her face. “What I wanted was a family – a grandmother who took care of.”
The woman died weeks later. Amy attended a funeral with her father. The church was an almost empty, significant reminder of the broken relationships that her grandmother left. As she stood at the grave, Amy found peace in memory of her mother.
Using heritage Amy has established a scholarship fund in the name of her mother for single mothers who are engaged in education.
One evening her father sat beside her on the porch and tears in his eyes. “I was supposed to tell you the truth about your grandmother,” he said. “But I wanted to protect you.”
“You protected me,” Amy replied, squeezing her hand. “And now I can protect others. My mother would be proud.”
