Ice-T had to work his way up through the ranks to become one of the most popular rappers of the 1980s and 1990s. He started out as an underground rapper in the early 1980s and persevered in getting a recording deal with Sire Records in 1987, the same year he released his debut studio album, “Rhyme Pays.”
After that, Ice-T started his own record company the next year, which he named Rhyme $yndicate Records after his own hip-hop group. Later, for his contribution to the song “Back on the Block,” he received his first Grammy Award in the category of Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group.
He was nominated for the Gramophone Award for Best Metal Performance two more times before he eventually took home the prize in 2021 for his work on the song “Bum-Rush.”
In the middle of the 1980s, Ice-T, who was already successful as a musician, also tried his hand at acting. His debut appearance was in the 1984 movie “Breakin’,” which was followed by the sequel “Breakin’ 2: Electric Boogaloo.” In the decade that followed, Ice-T starred alongside Denzel Washington and John Lithgow in the American action movie “Ricochet”. A well-known actor, Ice-T gained prominence for his performance on the television program “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit,” in which he co-starred with Mariska Hargitay. For his role as Sergeant Odafin “Fin” Tutuola in the show, Ice-T is most recognized. According to Entertainment Tonight, he has been an actor on the show since it debuted in the second season, making him the longest-tenured performer in the history of television. When Hargitay attended her co-star Ice-T’s Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony ten years later, she made a sly revelation about a special moniker she and no one else could use to refer to the celebrated actor.
Hargitay was just one of several attendees who paid respect to Ice-T at the occasion. She complimented them both for their fantastic friendship while making her statements.
“You are the original when it comes to friendship, which is why I hold you in such high esteem. You are my genuine, unwavering, trustworthy friend, and I can’t express how much it means to me, Hargitay told her listeners. I’m going to describe it despite its simple, profound, and amazing, and even though I know you already understand how full the word “friend” is when I say it to you. As straightforward, thought-provoking, and beautiful as that is. Throughout my life, you have been the source of so much joy for me. You embody constancy to the letter. Speaking the truth, you. You don’t even try to sugarcoat it.
Hargitay jokingly admitted during the speech that one of the reasons she adored Ice-T so much was that he allowed her to call him nicknames that no one else was allowed to use. This, according to her, was the main factor in her deep love for him.
“He doesn’t mind if I call him Icey! I consider you to be a close friend. Hargitay addressed Ice-T, saying, “So, my darling, sweet, wise, unique, ferocious, beautiful, precious, Ice-T, welcome to this holy place; my mom and I are thrilled to have you here.” The words “Ice-T, you are everything to me: beautiful, precious, fierce, gorgeous, wise, and unique.”
