A Mexican influencer who was fatally shot by an alleged cartel member had issued a chilling warning just moments before her demise. 

Valeria Marquez, a 23-year-old beauty influencer, was tragically murdered inside her own salon, Blossom Beauty, on Tuesday, May 13. The suspect, who was thought to be wearing a disguise as a delivery person, shot the victim once in the chest and again in the head during a live broadcast. The prime suspect is believed to be ‘doble r’, a person associated with the jalisco nueva generación cartel, as reported by the Mexican outlet el heraldo.

Despite the absence of formal charges, authorities have identified double r as a significant individual of interest in the investigation. According to reports, Valerie and the cartel member had been in a romantic relationship for several months, but tensions reportedly emerged when she received extravagant gifts from her online supporters—something that may have angered him. 

Just moments before her demise, valeria posted on social media, recounting a bizarre encounter she had experienced. She mentioned that an employee named erika informed her that someone had attempted to deliver a’very important’ gift, which necessitated her presence to receive it. During the live show, Valeria posed a question to her audience, ‘did they bring me a present this morning? Were they planning to harm me?’

She had previously mentioned receiving threats from her ex-partner, expressing her belief that if anything were to happen to her, he should face consequences. 

Due to widespread media speculation, prosecutors have urged caution. On May 14, the Jalisco state attorney general’s office issued a statement clarifying that the case is still ongoing and no formal charges have been brought against the individuals involved. 

‘this office clarifies that, to date, the investigation contains no specific allegations pointing directly to the alleged perpetrator,’ the statement read

Law enforcement officials have utilized Mexico’s femicide protocol, a legal framework specifically designed to investigate gender-based homicides, as the investigation progresses. 

Additionally, there are reports linking double r to previous violent crimes, such as the 2012 murder of model Daisy Ferrer Arenas, whose body was discovered in a sewage canal in Guadalajara.
