Jennifer Runyon, ‘Ghostbusters’ and ‘Charles in Charge’ Actress, Dies at 65

Jennifer Runyon, a beloved actress whose work in 1980s films and television left a lasting impression on pop culture, has passed away. After a quiet six-month battle with cancer, Runyon died on March 6 at the age of 65.

Her loved ones confirmed to her family that she passed away peacefully. In a statement shared via social media and reported by ABC7 Los Angeles, her family expressed deep gratitude for the support they have received.

They mentioned that “it was a long and difficult journey that ended with her surrounded by family.” “She will be remembered for her deep devotion to family and friends and her love of life.” A Quintessential Face of the ’80s

Runyon, who was born in Chicago in 1960, became a popular performer during the 1980s. She is perhaps best known for playing the college student being “tested” by Bill Murray’s Peter Venkman in the opening scene of the 1984 classic Ghostbusters.

Even though it only made a brief appearance, the scene became a memorable beginning of the supernatural comedy. On television, she earned a devoted following as Gwendolyn Pierce on the hit sitcom Charles in Charge.  Her versatility as a supporting actress also led to guest roles on Quantum Leap, Murder, She Wrote, and Magnum, P.I., some of the most popular dramas of the decade.

A Legacy to Last In her later years, Runyon stepped away from the cameras to focus on her personal life and her family.  Her husband, Todd Corman, and their two children, Wyatt and Bayley, survive her. Many people are reflecting on the warmth and authenticity she brought to her roles as online tributes from fans and former coworkers pour in.

For audiences who grew up in the ’80s, her performances remain a cherished part of the era’s cultural memory.  Not only will Jennifer Runyon be remembered for the characters she played, but also for the profound impact she had on her closest friends and family.
