Johnny Depp Receives $1 Million Settlement from Amber Heard, Commits to Donating to 5 Charities in One Year

A source close to Depp revealed that the 60-year-old actor intends to contribute $200,000 to five charities of his choice. These organizations include The Make-A-Film Foundation, The Painted Turtle, Red Feather, Tetiaroa Society, and Amazonia Fund Alliance.

After the ruling on June 1, 2022, both Depp and Heard decided not to pursue further appeals and opted for a settlement, which was disclosed in December.

In a statement during that time, the 37-year-old Heard emphasized that the decision to settle was an extremely difficult one and should not be seen as an admission of guilt. She defended her truth and highlighted the challenges women face when speaking out, expressing that her life had been deeply impacted as a result.

Heard also expressed her relief at finally having an opportunity to break free from something she had tried to escape from over six years ago, on terms she could agree with. She asserted that she had not admitted any wrongdoing and saw her decision to settle as a sign of strength. She added that moving forward, she would not be silenced or constrained.

During the televised trial, Heard detailed the humiliation she experienced and expressed her unwillingness to go through it again. She mentioned the fear of facing not just financial repercussions but also psychological, physical, and emotional tolls. She emphasized that women should not have to fear violence or bankruptcy for speaking their truth.

Depp’s lawyers, Benjamin Chew and Camille Vazquez, also released a statement in December, affirming that the jury’s unanimous decision in favor of Depp against Heard remained intact. The $1 million payment, which Depp pledged and will donate to charities, served as an acknowledgment of the legal system’s pursuit of justice.

Recently, Depp made a public appearance at the Cannes Film Festival, while Heard, now residing in Spain with her daughter, is scheduled to attend the 69th Taormina Film Festival in Italy on June 24 for the global premiere of her film “In the Fire.”
