*Queer Eye* star Jonathan Van Ness addressed recent allegations about their on-set behavior during an appearance on the *Table Manners* podcast on June 26.
The 37-year-old told *Queer Eye* that their family first learned of the article, which was written in March, in December. Van Ness explained, “I went from dealing with the bankruptcy of my JN Hair line to the prospect of exposure that wasn’t based on fact, but was designed to make me look as bad as possible.”
They continued: “From January to March I walked on the shells waiting for them to fall. When it finally happened, I realized that I was getting so much of my self-esteem from social media and my career that I didn’t even realize how much it was affecting me.”
A March exposé by *Rolling Stone* included anonymous complaints about Van Ness’s behavior, accusing them of “intense and frightening” anger on the set of *Queer Eye*. Van Ness did not publicly comment on the allegations at the time.Â
Van Ness added, “A lot of people were looking for a reason to dislike me or say, ‘I knew they were fake and this is the proof.’ Despite the support of my family, husband, and team, I couldn’t bring myself to look at social media, and whenever I did, I was immediately met with something deeply hurtful.
