A Love That Lasts a Lifetime: Couple Reunites in ICU for One Final Goodbye

In eastern China, a couple’s extraordinary reunion has captured hearts worldwide, reminding us of the enduring power of love.
A photograph showing 92-year-old Feng Ming holding hands with his wife, 95-year-old Zhang Ping, in a hospital intensive care unit went viral, touching millions. Married for nearly 66 years, the couple were brought together in the ICU at Yinzhou Hospital in Zhejiang Province thanks to the compassionate efforts of medical staff.
Feng had been admitted for heart failure, which worsened as other organs began to fail, later complicated by a lung infection. Dependent on life support and unable to communicate, Feng’s family decided to cease aggressive treatment and bring him home—but before leaving, he requested one final meeting with his wife.
Zhang, who was recovering from a fractured femur on another floor, would have arrived too late under standard ICU visiting rules. Recognizing the urgency, ICU head nurse Wang Yanfang arranged for Zhang to be transported on a stretcher so she could see Feng one last time.
