Authorities Investigate After Neighbor Spots Unusual Detail at Nancy Guthrie’s Home
A small observation from a neighbor led to a focused law enforcement operation at the Catalina Foothills home of Nancy Guthrie, mother of TODAY show host Savannah Guthrie.
On Friday, agents executed a targeted search of the property, seizing a vehicle believed to belong to Nancy Guthrie and removing a wired device from the rooftop. Over ten police vehicles were on the scene as officers examined the garage, yard, and roof in connection with the ongoing investigation into the 84-year-old’s disappearance.

According to reports, the device appeared to be a camera. Retired NYPD Inspector Paul Mauro noted that such equipment can sometimes be overlooked in initial searches and may capture human activity inadvertently. “They recovered a new camera on the roof, one that wasn’t known to investigators initially. It’s unclear why it hadn’t been detected sooner or exactly what it recorded,” Mauro said.
The investigation was prompted after neighbor Laura Gargano noticed the roof looked unusually clean compared with neighboring homes. “Normally, after rains, roofs gather dirt quickly. This one stood out,” she told CNN. Her tip led authorities to examine the property more closely, resulting in the removal of both the camera and a Blue Subaru SUV.
Savannah Guthrie and her siblings publicly urged anyone with information—or anyone holding their mother—to ensure her safe return. Video footage showed FBI agents carefully removing the device from the rooftop as part of the ongoing investigation.
Conclusion
The operation highlights how seemingly minor details, like an unusually clean roof, can prompt discoveries that may prove critical in complex cases. Authorities continue to investigate, piecing together evidence while the Guthrie family and the community await clarity in this high-profile disappearance.
