Legal Dispute Arises as Vegan Woman Files Lawsuit Against Neighbors for Cooking Meat Outdoors

Dealing with noisy neighbors can be a challenging experience, and it’s no different for Cilla Carden, a massage therapist based in Perth, Australia. She took her neighbors to court because they continuously played basketball and used their barbecue, which, she claimed, caused her to be unable to enjoy her backyard.

According to her, the smell of her neighbor’s barbecue and smoking has bothered her for months, and she has also commented on the children playing basketball. “It’s been devastating, it’s been turmoil, it’s been unrest, I haven’t been able to sleep,” Carden told 9News in 2019.

However, her claims were rejected, and she applied to appeal to the Supreme Court, but it was also denied. She believes that her neighbors were deliberately causing the problem, which led her to take the matter to court. But the defendant argues that they have fixed the problem.

9News visited the defendant’s backyard, where they showed that the barbecue had been removed, and the children had been told not to play basketball anymore.

Not long ago, a Facebook event was established to organize a community barbecue as a way of demonstrating to Carden that she couldn’t impede a classic Australian tradition. Unfortunately, after the event gained traction, 24,000 individuals expressed interest, prompting police to intervene and issue a warning. Carden’s attorney also threatened legal action, and ultimately, the barbecue was called off. Despite Carden’s actions leading some to believe she is against meat consumption, her legal representative affirms that she has no issue with individuals eating meat or using barbecues.

In summary, Carden’s choice to take her neighbors to court due to their outdoor activities has generated a division of opinions and caused controversy. While some individuals deem her legal action as excessive, others contend that her neighbors should have displayed greater consideration. It’s crucial to recognize that everyone has the right to peacefully enjoy their property, and it’s imperative to seek a resolution that benefits all parties involved.
