Lenovo Yoga 9i 2022 Review: The Best 2-in-1 Laptop Yet

If you’re in the market for a hybrid device that can handle both works and play with ease, then you’ll want to take a closer look at this affordable 2-in-1 from Lenovo. You’ll be glad you did!

What’s in the Box?

Lenovo includes a USB Type-C charger, which is great. What’s not so great is that it’s a 30W adapter, which means if you’re charging from a low battery (or using an older laptop), you’re going to have to wait longer. 

It comes with some instructions and warranty info, but nothing else. Of course, if you use Windows 10 as Lenovo does for its PCs, you’ll get all that stuff through your Microsoft account anyway. That might be why there isn’t anything else in here.

Inside, you get all of your typical packagings. You’ve got your quick start guide in case you need help, a warranty card, and a registration card for Lenovo support. 

While it’s really not much more than that, I’d still like to see at least one full version of software on a new laptop. It’s even worse if there isn’t any software on here at all (which seems to be happening more and more lately). Even just a photo editing program would be great!

Overall, it’s very minimal. You get what you need to start using your laptop, but not much else. I’m glad that Lenovo includes a USB Type-C charger, but I wish it was at least 45W so I could just plug in my phone and top up both devices. 

It’s also a shame that there isn’t any software included with Windows 10 getting updates on its own now.

Price

$1149 for a Core i5 unit. A higher-end $1514 version comes with a built-in stylus and touchscreen. Both of those configurations come with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of SSD storage. 

All models support 802.11ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, two USB 3.0 ports, one HDMI port, and a microSD card slot that supports cards up to 512GB in size.

The specs of Lenovo Yoga 9i 2022 are solid, but nothing amazing – especially when you compare them to Dell’s XPS 13 or HP’s Spectre x360, both of which cost less than Lenovo’s Yoga 910 and offer better overall performance with similar battery life numbers.

Even still, $1514 for a Core i7 Family machine with a solid set of specs and useful extras is pretty good. A comparable Dell XPS 13 unit costs $200 more and has a lower-res screen and one less USB port. 

Lenovo’s decision to go with 512GB of solid-state storage instead of a 1TB hard drive helps justify its asking price, but some folks will prefer traditional storage over fast flash storage.

Design and Build Quality

Lenovo’s redesigned Yoga 9i 2022 is one of our favorite laptops, so we were excited to see what improvements were made in its successor.

At first glance, you won’t notice much difference at all—the laptop looks almost identical to its predecessor. However, there are a few key differences worth mentioning. First, it features an Intel Core i7 processor that offers impressive speed. 

Overall, if you liked Lenovo’s previous Yoga line of laptops (such as their 9i 2022 model), then you should definitely consider picking up a new Yoga 9i 2022! 

Lenovo yoga 9i 2022’s design is similar to other 2-in-1 laptops on the market. It has two 360° hinges that allow for folding it into four different modes (e.g., tablet mode). 

It also comes with Lenovo Active Pen support, which allows you to draw or take notes on your screen just like using a real pen and paper. 

While most users will probably use their laptops in traditional laptop mode, many people love being able to fold them over into different shapes for unique usage modes.

Keyboard and Trackpad

As with all of Lenovo’s flagship laptops, Lenovo has provided a good amount of space on its keyboard and trackpad. While not as quiet as some other keyboards I’ve used, it provides a very solid feel for typing that makes it really easy to get work done. 

You also don’t have to worry about accidentally hitting keys while in tablet mode. The trackpad is solid, too; I like how much room there is on its right side.

Keyboards on most other laptops just don’t compare to Lenovo’s keyboards. Its full-sized, backlit keys provide a solid feel that feels great when typing while allowing you to be able to type even in dark environments or from distance. 

The trackpad is similarly spacious, letting you use it comfortably even when moving around in tablet mode. You also won’t have to worry about accidentally touching anything on the screen as its trackpad doesn’t overlap with your display.

Display

The Lenovo Yoga 9i 2022 14’s display is one of its best features. It’s a Full HD touch screen that offers wide viewing angles and vibrant colors. 

Brightness levels are good enough to use outside under direct sunlight too. Lenovo’s new Flex series of laptops, starting with the Lenovo Flex 10, come in three different sizes, making it easier to find a system that fits your needs. 

If you want something small and portable enough to use as a tablet but also sturdy enough to do work on in laptop mode, then look no further than its middle child, at 14 inches wide. 

Lenovo Yoga 9i 2022 14’s weighs less than 3 pounds and has a hinge that folds all the way back 360 degrees, so you can flip it around and use it as a tablet when you feel like it. 

This particular Flex laptop has a crisp display with great color and brightness. In fact, even in bright outdoor light, you can still see what’s on your screen clearly and smoothly. 

Its touchscreen is also very responsive, which makes it easy to navigate through Windows 10 or any other software you may be using. Its best quality though has to be its battery life, giving you more than 10 hours of usage time. 

No need to worry about where your next outlet is or when you have to charge again – just bring your charger along for emergencies and enjoy full days of work wherever you are!

It will be able to do a wide variety of tasks at lightning speeds, from multiple video processing and file editing to office work, gaming, and surfing. Its DDR4 SDRAM RAM makes running complex apps an easy task even on lower-power processors like Intel’s i3 series. 

This processor is integrated with a UHD Graphics 620 chip which easily handles everyday tasks like word processing or web browsing without any slowdown whatsoever.

Sound & Speakers

Both models include JBL speakers. They’re among the best laptop speakers you can find, and they come in handy if you’re watching a movie or listening to music while using your laptop as a tablet. 

The Audio quality of Lenovo Yoga 9i 2022 14’s is strong, too, even though Lenovo says it works with Dolby Atmos software to deliver an immersive sound experience that feels more like a surround sound setup than two tiny speakers on either side of your laptop screen. 

(However, unlike most other laptops with Dolby Atmos-enabled speakers and headphones, there’s no headphone jack.)

Lenovo’s promise is that its speakers provide an immersive audio experience, and after listening to a lot of music and watching a couple of movies on our Yoga 9i 2022, we think they are excellent. However, your results may vary depending on how you’re using your laptop.

Heat & Battery Life

Lenovo’s Yoga 9i 2022 has some of the best battery life on any laptop we’ve tested and heat management is top-notch. You can get a full day out of it without needing to charge up, but what’s truly impressive is how cool it stays. 

Even when running processor-intensive apps or having multiple browser tabs open at once, it won’t cause your lap to feel hot. While its tablet mode might look heavy due to its large bezels (though they actually make holding it easier), in reality, it weighs just 2.51 pounds and is only 6.5mm thick. 

That makes it very light and easy to hold in one hand while reading a book or watching a movie – even if you’ve had your arms above your head for hours!

In real-world use, we were able to get well over 10 hours out of our review unit on a single charge. Yes, there are laptops with longer battery life out there, but you have to sacrifice power and features in exchange. 

The Lenovo Yoga 9i 2022 14’s doesn’t make you do that. With around 12 hours of total video playback at 75% brightness and full Wi-Fi coverage (around half brightness), you’ll probably only need to charge it once every few days. 

Of course, your mileage may vary depending on how often you find yourself actually watching videos or surfing online with it instead of working or taking notes.

When your laptop is as thin and light as a tablet, there’s not much room for fans to ventilate and cool it down. That doesn’t mean Lenovo has skimped on heat management, though. 

At idle, while running an internet browser with no apps or games running in the background, our review unit reached just 32 degrees Celsius (90 degrees Fahrenheit). 

When playing the Full HD video, we saw it reach 40°C (104°F) which felt warm but not hot. There’s even a special mode that will make sure its temperature remains around 39°C (102.2°F) by automatically throttling performance if necessary so you can keep watching or working without feeling uncomfortable.

Verdict – Should you buy it?

Based on my Lenovo Yoga 9i 2022 14’s review, I’d say it’s worth a buy since it has a powerful processor, tons of memory, and good battery life. 

Plus, unlike many laptops in its price range (and above), it can be used like a tablet or traditional notebook. It even has an included stylus for easy note-taking. And if you’re worried about feeling overwhelmed by Windows 10—don’t be! 

Despite getting slammed by some early reviewers for being too complicated and overwhelming to use compared to previous versions of Windows, I find that with time it becomes less confusing (it certainly helps to have tech-savvy friends who help explain things) and more intuitive.

Given its excellent processing power, stylus support, and good battery life, I’d say it’s worth a buy. Even though it’s expensive for a laptop, you get what you pay for and in return, you get one of the best laptops on the market today. 

It can do almost anything from being a productivity machine to an entertainment center to a note-taking tool to a tablet replacement.
