Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s journey has been a story woven with threads of tradition, individuality, and the search for autonomy. From the birth of their first child, Archie Harrison, in the throes of his royal obligations, to the arrival of their daughter, Lilibet Diana, amid a departure from royal formality, their family story embodies a unique blend of royal heritage and personal choice.
Archie’s entry into the world in 2019 came when Prince Harry and Meghan were still deeply rooted in the royal family. The world watched with bated breath as the couple celebrated the arrival of their firstborn with traditional pomp and ceremony. However, the birth of Lilibet Diana in 2021 signaled a seismic shift in the dynamic of the Suss*xes. By then, they had made the bold decision to step back from their royal roles and establish a more private existence across the Atlantic.

Although they hardly ever use them, Harry and Meghan have kept their royal titles. Yet, on Lilibet Diana’s birth certificate, both parents had very different names.
Lilibet Diana’s birth certificate and name tags
Lili was born on June 4 at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital at 11:40 a.m., according to her birth certificate.
Prince Harry wrote down the titles for himself: His Royal Highness and the Duke of Suss*x. While this was happening, Meghan simply signed herself as “Rachel Meghan Markle” and dropped her royal title.
On the other hand, Harry and Meghan signed Archie’s birth certificate as “Rachel Meghan, Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Suss*x” and “His Royal Highness Henry Charles Albert David, Duke of Suss*x”. Although Meghan was never formally elevated to the rank of princess, they listed “Prince” and “Princess of the United Kingdom” as her job titles on this document.
Birth certificates issued in California do not list the parents’ occupations.
Lilibet Diana is named after her great-grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, who was also referred to as Lilibet.
Diana is Prince Harry’s middle name in honor of his mother.
After Prince Charles ascended the throne in September 2022, Lilibet and Archie received official recognition as the Royal Family in the United Kingdom. However, Meghan said in her candid interview with Oprah that her children can choose whether they want to be royalty or not.

She elaborated, “While I’m very clear about what comes with the titles of good and bad… That’s their birthright to decide.” They have this privilege from birth which they are free to use as they wish.
Harry and Meghan have made an agreement with Queen Elizabeth to give up their titles of “His and Her Highnesses” once they leave their royal positions.
“The Suss*xes will no longer use their HRH titles as they are no longer working members of the Royal Family,” Buckingham Palace said in a statement at the time.
Shortly afterward, HRH was ushered out of Prince Harry’s Diana tribute exhibition at Kensington Palace.
When the exhibition originally opened, there was a sign reading “Lent by HRH The Duke of Cambridge and HRH The Duke of Suss*x”.
Given by HRH The label now bears the names of the Dukes of Suss*x and Cambridge.
Lili and her profession
In June 2022, Lilibet Diana attended the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations and saw her great-grandmother for the first time.
Her parents traveled to the UK and met Queen Elizabeth before the Invictus Games in April. Speaking to Today at the time, Harry said: “It was so nice to see her.” “She’s in great shape. He always has a wonderful sense of humor when he’s around me. It was a pleasure to meet her again.”
Lili appeared in the Netflix documentary series Meghan and Harry. Harry tells her a story while she sits near some of the family pets.
“The most important thing for the two of us is to make sure we don’t repeat the same mistakes our parents may have made,” Harry said during the narration.
Meghan clarified that her childhood upbringing was the reason for her childhood desire for a large family.
“When I look back on my own childhood, it was great, but I remember feeling very alone,” she said. I didn’t have a big family, so all I wanted was all these cousins and all these people. So I was overjoyed that we would be able to give Archie what Thad always wanted when I was pregnant.”
As the curtain falls on this chapter of the Suss*xes’ narrative, their story embodies a profound shift in the fabric of royal tradition. Harry and Meghan’s deliberate decisions – stepping back from royal duties, redefining their roles, and giving their children autonomy in shaping their destinies – mark a transformative moment within the monarchy.
