Louisiana Couple Charged After Death of 2-Month-Old Daughter
Authorities in Louisiana have charged a young couple in connection with the death of their 2-month-old daughter, who suffered severe injuries, including a severed lower spine.
Opelousas police responded to a call on the evening of October 25, arriving at the family home shortly after 8 p.m. to find the infant unresponsive. Paramedics rushed the baby to the hospital, but she was pronounced dead upon arrival.
An autopsy revealed extensive signs of abuse and neglect, including malnourishment, dehydration, multiple broken ribs, and a serious spinal injury.
Arrest warrants were issued for 18-year-olds Kaylee Fontenot and Taylor Broussard, charging them with first-degree murder, cruelty to juveniles, and second-degree battery. Fontenot was taken into custody on Friday, while Broussard was arrested on Monday. Currently, Broussard remains in jail, and Fontenot’s status indicates she is no longer listed in jail records.
Opelousas Police Chief Graig LeBlanc expressed the gravity of the case, stating, “This is a heartbreaking situation. Our team is dedicated to investigating every detail and ensuring that justice is served for this infant.”
This tragic incident underscores the dangers of child abuse and neglect, emphasizing the need for increased vigilance and intervention to protect vulnerable children and prevent similar tragedies.
