In a disturbing account, a 22-year-old man has confessed to the heinous act of ending the life of his own newborn daughter. The harrowing sequence of events unfolded when this individual, now convicted, shared intricate details of the tragedy. Within the confines of prison, the perpetrator met a dreadful fate as fellow inmates became aware of his unforgivable crime.
Tragically, Baby Luna, a mere two days old, was entrusted to her father, Liam Deane, as her mother, Karen Bissett, sought much-needed respite upstairs in their family abode. Little did Karen envision the horrors that would transpire just a short while later, leading to the untimely demise of their precious child.
According to The Sun, Deane resorted to violent actions, brutally striking Luna’s delicate countenance, exerting force on her frail body and limbs, and subjecting her to relentless shaking. Luna was subsequently rushed to Leeds General Infirmary, where she ultimately succumbed to her injuries while under intensive care. Michael Smith, the prosecuting attorney in Deane’s trial, revealed the devastating truth: the infant suffered grave harm to her brain, body, and visage. “Liam Deane admitted to inflicting every single injury upon her, acknowledging that Luna was inconsolable and his lack of control led to this horrifying outcome,” the prosecutor recounted.
Following a medical examination, a physician determined that Luna’s tragic passing resulted from severe head trauma, inflicting “devastating brain injuries” upon the helpless infant. When questioned by the authorities, Deane, overwhelmed with emotion, broke down and confessed to his reprehensible act of assaulting the defenseless baby. During the trial, a heart-wrenching statement from Luna’s mother was read aloud in the courtroom, recounting the indelible image of her precious child on life support in the hospital. “The memory of witnessing Luna in that state will haunt me eternally,” Luna’s mother lamented. “Words fail to capture the depths of despair. I wouldn’t wish such torment upon even my most detested foe.”
Deane characterized as a “malevolent father who mercilessly struck his two-day-old infant daughter to death in response to her inconsolable cries,” was handed a life sentence, as reported by The Sun. Additionally, he received a minimum prison term of ten years. However, the public’s encounter with Deane did not conclude there.
Just one month into his incarceration, Liam Deane met a gruesome demise at the hands of a fellow inmate named John Westland, aged 28. BBC reported that Westland employed a broken bottle of aftershave to carry out the merciless act, leaving Deane lifeless. Evidence indicated signs of asphyxiation caused by pressure on Deane’s head and face. Prison guards discovered Deane drenched in blood within his cell, while shards of glass near the bunk bed bore fingerprints matching those of Westland.
During his trial for Deane’s murder, Westland provided an account of the days preceding his cellmate’s demise. The jury learned that Deane faced constant threats and torment from other inmates, who branded him a “baby killer” due to the nature of his conviction. Westland further revealed that Deane was burdened with financial debts to fellow prisoners.
John Westland received a life sentence for the murder of Liam Deane, and the judge sternly reprimanded him during the sentencing. “You claimed to the jury that you believed Liam Deane was a sex offender, but that was untrue,” the presiding judge asserted. “While he committed a grave offense, he acknowledged his actions from the outset and was grappling with the consequences.”
West Yorkshire Police characterized Deane’s abhorrent act of killing his newborn daughter as a “shocking crime that shattered her family,” yet they acknowledged his right to serve his sentence behind bars. Nonetheless, within the community, there were those who perceived Westland’s actions against Deane as a form of righteous “prison justice.”
“Good. He received what he deserved, and taxpayers will no longer have to bear the burden of his upkeep. I hope he endured suffering,” expressed Beverly Milburn. “I have no sympathy for someone capable of inflicting such cruelty upon little Luna. Karma will catch up with him,” declared Katie Grantham.
“Poor little angel. Such an innocent and fragile life. May he rot in hell and face punishment every single day. A defenseless baby’s life was taken away. Screw you. Karma will prevail,” Yvonne Dempsey commented on Facebook.
“No one sympathizes with a baby killer, not even hardened criminals on the inside. He received the fate he deserved,” stated Marie Ryan Higgins.
Even within the realm of murderers, drug dealers, burglars, and other such offenders, those who perpetrate crimes against children are widely regarded as the most despicable. Certain crimes are so abhorrent that even the most devout individuals believe that death is a fitting punishment for those who cross the boundaries and commit unspeakable acts.
It is perhaps due to this sentiment that some people find a semblance of satisfaction when criminals face their own form of prison justice. Though such retribution cannot bring Luna back, we can only hope that her mother discovers some solace in knowing that the man responsible for her anguish no longer treads upon this earth. May she be able to remember her daughter with a heart filled solely with joy and cherished memories.
