She described how they often went to a restaurant for lunch during breaks and returned to the set drunk. She drove to her ex-husband Donato’s remote home on the California coast to get sober after Waite “straightened out” and asked her to do the same because he had been drinking excessively. He hasn’t been drinking since.
Waite has also experienced his fair share of pain. He was married three times and admitted that the consequences of his divorces were so severe that he could never consider remarrying.
The two found happiness in their most recent unions: Waite with Kerry Shear, 20 years her junior, and Learned with lawyer John Doherty, 12 years her junior.
However, in 2019, five years after Waite’s death, Learned finally acknowledged what fans had long assumed was that she and Waite were very much in love.
