When a loving mother discovers that her son has not been kind to his teacher, she decides to use the police to teach him a lesson in respect that he will never forget. But what exactly did he do to ask the police to remove him? Every action has a response and sometimes we have to learn that lesson the hard way. That’s exactly what made Chiquita Hill, mother of ten-year-old Sean, make a quick decision when she found out what he was doing at school.
According to ABC News, Hill learned from her son’s fifth-grade teacher that he was misbehaving in class, going so far as to withdraw, being rude and disrespectful, not listening, and neglecting to do his homework like his peers. In an attempt to get to the cub, the instructor decided to go to his house, but he was not interested in what she said. His mother claimed that the teacher’s advice went “in one ear and out the other”, which made her realize that more needed to be done to help him see the error of his ways. According to her, “I knew I had to do something to shock him.”
HOW DID SHE ACT?
Hill decided to seek help from the police after the frustrated instructor left. She then called the Columbus Police Department and complained about her son’s rudeness and intransigence. After hearing the information, the police department decided to send officers to Hill’s residence. Just before they arrived, she told him what was going to happen, but he didn’t believe her.
The police first hit the young man as a criminal, dragged him outside, and put him in the back seat of their police car, where he sat for almost five minutes. They decided to make it look as authentic as they could given how intelligent today’s youth are. To intimidate him, one of the police officers got into the car, turned on the lights, and pulled closer.
Before deciding he was sufficiently disturbed, the officers gave the young man a good word, then released him and watched him run as fast as his legs carried him back to the safety of his mother’s arms. Sean had changed when he returned to Hill, though Hill had no idea what was said to the kid in the car. In Hill’s words, “[Sean] gave me the biggest hug and said, ‘I’ll never do that again.'”
She sat the young man down and talked to him about what happened after the police left, helping him realize that his actions have consequences and that often others around him pay the price. Hill was convinced by the results that she had made the right decision. A particular set of memories is never lost during our lifetime because humans have complicated brains. Hill was sure that as Sean got older and lived in a country where more and more children were being influenced by harmful behavior, he would never forget the lesson she taught him about civility.
WHY DID THE POLICE INTRODUCE HER?
The officers involved did not have specific permission from their superiors, according to Columbus Police Department Assistant Chief Lem Miller, who also said state police are “not in the business of pretending to arrest anybody.”
Miller said that while it was fantastic that they were able to scare the young man into thinking straight, it could have left him with a negative impression of the police that would last into his adulthood. Fortunately, he verified that the police would not be disciplined because they were merely trying to do a nice deed. However, this did not change the possibility that they abused the authority of their uniforms. We completely understand that they were trying to do good, he added. They then clarified that they “do not support” this and would discourage such extreme measures in the future.

Despite what Miller said, Hill is still confident in her choice, especially since she started receiving positive messages from the same fifth-grade teacher who traveled so far to their home to talk to her son. It was obvious that some people thought this was too strict, but Hill didn’t care because her actions caused her child to turn the way she wanted. Life lessons can be too hard at times. However, in retrospect, we have to see that this is a necessary step, and it is what drove Hill to the act that ultimately helped young Sean develop into a nice person.
