Tiffany Floyd was out with her 4-year-old daughter when she stopped at a Burger King drive-thru near her West New York home for a quick bite.
It was supposed to be a simple treat, but things turned sour after her daughter complained about “ketchup” on her child’s food.
In a TikTok video, Floyd said, “I went to the Burger King by my house today.”
She described the moment she gave her daughter baby formula and heard her say, “Mommy, I don’t want ketchup.”
“So I’m taking the bag back because I think they messed up our order,” Floyd explains. “And I look in her bag and there’s blood everywhere.
Floyd told People that she didn’t notice there was “ketchup” on her daughter’s food until she ate the fries and bit into the hamburger.
Floyd initially believed it was also ketchup, but later recognized it as blood.
She immediately called the fast food restaurant and wanted to speak to the manager, who acknowledged that one of the employees had just cut his hand while bagging her food.
Floyd said of the manager, “He was so nonchalant at this point and I was upset,” and the manager offered Floyd a refund if he returned to the store.
Floyd also reported to his local health department but was told there wasn’t much they could do about it.
Burger King told People that it closed its Gettzville store for days, at the site of the incident, to thoroughly clean the area and retrain its employees.
Floyd is “disturbed” by the incident, even after the fast-food company cleaned up the business and gave employees new training on specific procedures.
She fears there might be blood in her food, so she won’t eat because her daughter has blood tests “every month.”
Floyd hopes her TikTok video, which has more than six million views, will act as a PSA for anyone who reaches into a fast food bag and gets out of control, not just those who went to the Gettzville restaurant on July 27.
“You unzip your bag and start eating without looking when you order food from the drive-thru. I just want others to see if they ate it too.”
I never realized that I should examine my food a little more carefully before biting into it.
The Burger King incident where Tiffany Floyd unknowingly found blood in her daughter’s food left her shaken and concerned about food safety. While the restaurant has taken steps to address the situation by temporarily closing the location and retraining staff, the emotional toll on Floyd remains significant. As a mother, her concern for her child’s health continues to weigh heavily on her, especially with regard to her daughter’s routine blood tests.
Floyd’s TikTok video, which has racked up millions of views, serves as a public service announcement, urging others to check their food carefully before eating — something many people don’t consider when choosing fast food. This cautionary tale reminds us all to take a moment to check our food, even if we assume it’s safe. While the fast-food chain’s response included a refund and an apology, the lasting impact on Floyd and her daughter underscores how one simple mistake can derail a seemingly ordinary trip.
Floyd hopes her experience will encourage others to be more vigilant about food safety and serve as a reminder that mistakes in the food industry, while rare, can have serious consequences. Her story highlights the need for ongoing training and diligence on the part of food businesses to prevent similar incidents from happening again.
