An Unexpected Request Myles Tankersley wanted to meet a student at his school’s “Twin Day,” and Britney Tankersley was initially irritated by the last-minute request. By eight o’clock, she had no idea about her classmate or their mother. She also didn’t have any matching outfits ready.
After an hour of searching, Tankersley found the other mother and she decided to take her son to Walmart. The only alternative that fit the boys’ sizes was the “Future Leader” button-down shirt, so they went for it.
Tankersley described her initial thoughts in an interview with TODAY, adding, “He went on and on about how they looked exactly the same. We both had brown eyes and dark hair, he insisted, and I decided to head to Walmart with a furious feeling.” it’s too late I think.
A striking resemblance
Tankersley asked his teacher to provide a picture of Myles and his twin if possible before Myles left for kindergarten the next morning. Even though she was aware that they were not alike, she still wanted to see the bond her son felt. When she saw the photo her teacher had given her, she burst into tears.
Expressing her feelings, Tankersley said, “I basically screamed because it was so amazing… I’m aware that they don’t look alike. But you know, he didn’t notice. I was hoping to get a picture of another white guy with light skin, brown hair, or something, but I never did. That’s the best thing in the whole world, I said.
Tankersley shared the touching event on her own Facebook page after she was overcome with emotion, and the post immediately received over 200,000 shares.
A strange friendship
Myles and Tanner, his classmate, formed the closest friendship, according to Tankersley. Since Twin Day, their families have even been spending time together despite living only a short distance from each other.
The instructors at the school are really happy, Tankersley said. Even if they don’t look identical, a lot of young people dress up all the time, but this one was special. It helped me realize that my expectations were completely at odds with reality, which is why she was so unique.
Tankersley emphasized that she never intended to gain attention. She thinks the message of acceptance and friendship is far more important than the viral exposure the film received.
