Mariah checked into the hospital to get checked out because she hasn’t been feeling well lately.
However, her children, eager to keep the money for themselves, decided to rent out her house as Aironb while she was gone. Mariah decided to punish her children after learning the truth.
“Mariah why on earth is your house listed as an Airbnb?” my friend Liz asked me over the phone.
“What?” exclaimed the confused man.
“What are you talking about?”
Denise is on her bachelorette weekend so she was looking for a place to rent for the weekend when she found yours.
You’re still in the hospital, aren’t you? she asked.
I remarked, “Liz, I don’t know what you’re talking about,” as I watched the infusion disappear into my blood. “Send me the link to the page Denise saw.
Here’s how I taught my kids a helpful lesson:
My blood pressure has been fluctuating lately which has led to occasional fainting spells.
Liam, my child, stated, “Mom, you really should get it checked out. It’s not worth your time to buy an over-the-counter drug just because you believe it will help. You need to get everything properly evaluated.”
And you should start eating healthier, my daughter Leah advised. “Eating toast in the afternoon, soup in the evening, and oatmeal in the morning is hardly a balanced diet. It’s messing with your health. Now’s the time to get serious.”
Leah was walking around my kitchen cutting up salad greens to go with the marinated grilled chicken.
And how are your constant headaches going?
Now is the time to get everything checked out. “You should get yourself properly checked out at the hospital,” Liam said.
“But I’m fine, except for the headache and the dizziness; I’m fine!” I shot back.
My two children rolled their eyes and snorted at me.
Leah motioned, “Do it, Mom,” and pointed.
I had to permit them. I’ve been taking my health for granted lately. I continued to walk every other day and practice yoga as much as my body would allow during the workweek.
However, there was a lingering feeling that something might not be quite right.
Liz suggested, “Just silence the feeling,” after our yoga session one day. We met for a smoothie.
“But what if we find something?” I asked, reluctant to voice my thoughts.
“So we can do it together.” Liz commented, “I know Paul isn’t here anymore, but I am.” Either way, you need to be ready for Denise’s wedding. I have no idea how to fulfill the duties of mother of the bride.’
“I’ll go to the GP and take it from there,” | he said. “If he thinks it’s the right way, I’ll do it.”
“Yes, Mariah,” the doctor replied. “I think a comprehensive exam is a great idea for you. There is nothing wrong with simply understanding your body and health. I will also suggest a CT scan for your headaches.”
This is how I ended up in the hospital and my children decided to make the most of the situation.
“I’ll make sure you have lunch soon,” the nurse added with a smile. “After the CT scan, you just relax.
I said “Thank you” I spoke. “I’ll just call my best friend and catch up with her.
When I caught up with Liz, I learned that my kids had rented out my property on Airbnb during the week I was supposed to be in the hospital.
“So what are you going to do about it?” Liz asked me when I got back on the phone after I found out that the residence on the site was indeed mine.
“I’m not sure,” I said. But I would like to pass on some knowledge to them. Liam and Leah should have been more aware. However, Leah and her husband are constantly looking for ways to increase their income. Andrew probably also struggles with gambling.”
Liz bit my ear and said, “Tell me what you want me to do.”
“I want you to tell Denise to book it,” I said.
“But they’re going to identify her, so she’ll probably have to create a new account. Is that likely to be accepted?”
“Of course it will!” Liz said. “I’ll do anything for you. But what’s next?”
“Tomorrow they will release me,” | he said.
“However, the children believe that I will be here by the end of the week. This allows people to believe that they will profit financially from the place.”
“You want Denise to rent it, but you want to screw it up?” Liz laughed. “This is incomprehensible.
“No, my children are devious,” I replied.
After I finished the conversation, the nurse brought me lunch and prepared to leave me alone to finish my meal while she finished her rounds.
To be honest, I wasn’t sure how I felt about my children betraying me. However, it pained me to think that my children were okay with strangers taking over my house while I was away in the hospital.
“What were they thinking?” I asked myself.
The people who sat in my father’s old chair or drank from the mugs I painted with my own hands didn’t cross my mind. Even though Paul had been dead for some time, the chair still looked like his.
“No,” I answered to myself. “I’ll get back to those kids.
Despite instructions to reduce stress, I was discharged the next morning with a clean bill of health.
My doctor told me to “watch my cholesterol, Mariah.” “Eat lots of green leafy vegetables.”
I drove my car to Liz’s where I planned to wait for Denise to arrive and give me the keys to the house.
“Are you sure about that?” Liz asked as she buttered a lemon poppy seed muffin and made herself a cup of tea.
Yes, I answered. “And that way, they’re going to have to feel responsible for their actions.”
A few hours later I returned home. There was something unique about the house. I could tell someone else had stayed there because of the distinct smell.
The smell of sweet perfume filled my normally forest-smelling home.
I took a long shower trying to get rid of the hospital smell that clung to my skin. I longed to crawl into my bed and get a good night’s sleep.
Tomorrow was the fun part.
The next morning I made breakfast and took all the vitamins and pills the doctor prescribed.
Then I started packing all my appliances.
“Where are you going to put everything?” They asked me when Liz was coming.
“I’ll put some in the trunk of the car and we can hide the rest in the garage for now,” I replied.
Liz and I took turns cleaning the house until there was only one old toaster left.
Liz replied, “Come on,” she hugged me.
“We’ll get you out of here.
I stayed with Liz until Friday. I then drove home in the afternoon.
“Hey, Mom!” As soon as Leah saw me pull into the driveway, she screamed.
I said, “Hey baby,” as I grabbed my trunk from the back seat.
When we first moved into the house, my kitchen was completely outfitted with brand-new appliances.
“What is all this?” I pretended to be stunned when I asked.
“Liam and I thought you deserved some new stuff!” Leah said looking down at the ground.
“No, no,” I replied. “You came back to my house when your guest was about to check out and found everything gone.
Leah stared at me and stared.
She asked, “You know?”
“Of course I do!” I screamed. “I grabbed everything! Someone must have imparted some wisdom to you. How come you’re opening my house?”
Leah blinked slowly.
“Mom,” she said softly. “I’m sorry. Andrew and I agreed it would be a smart idea as it seemed like a fantastic way to make some extra money. As long as nothing broke, Liam added, it was acceptable.”
I hugged her and whispered, “Honey,” “This is not something you can achieve. Come talk to me about money if you and Andrew need it. Avoid such actions. Our faith will be destroyed.”
My daughter took my purse with a smile.
She said, “Come on.” “I’ll use a new kettle and make you some tea. I’ll return everything else tomorrow. And you own all the money.”
How would you react in such a situation?
