Once I got over my astonishment, I devised a clever scheme that would be repeated later. I made him repent of ever asking for it!
Now for the catch. I dated my ex-boyfriend Dan Brown for five years. Before they weren’t, everything was fantastic.
I believed that our breakup was the result of his infidelity. How wrong I was!
We didn’t talk for a while, which led me to believe we were done. I thought he had moved on from the lady he was having an affair with but it wasn’t true. Dan suddenly appeared last week, a month after our breakup, and dared to write me an absurd request!
Once you hear what it was, you’ll agree that his request was the least of them all, it’s almost funny! In his message, he begged me to return every penny he had ever spent on me. Really?
For all the things he bought me for the holidays, birthdays, and New Year’s, Dan asked for money! The man counted every crown spent, which added up to a large amount!
“You must give me back EVERY penny,” he ordered. He made demands without bothering to meet me! This guy has nerves! I was immediately taken aback! Who does it? However, the more I thought about it, the funnier it got!
I didn’t write to him how ridiculous and pathetic his request was. I didn’t even tell Dan how much I spent on HIM on those same days, so it wasn’t like I was bragging to him. We ended up spending a lot of time together.
“But during our relationship, you said I don’t have to pay you back?” I asked him from the beginning. When he said, “It doesn’t matter,” I was stunned. Hurry up, I need the money now.” I considered brushing him off, but then an elaborate scheme began to form in my mind.
Thinking of a smarter way to deal with it, I decided to oblige – but with a twist! I replied, “Sure, Dan. I’ll pay you back.” Within seconds he responded in a triumphant, self-righteous manner:
“Okay. I was waiting for you to realize your mistake.”

I calmly replied, “Well, Dan, you understand. One dime at a time.”
“Stop this nonsense immediately!”
“Or what? Take me to court? Go now.”
I assumed that when he decided to play with me, he would think about me every day for the next SEVEN years! I felt a rush of satisfaction when he hung up. Dan had a constant urge to be in charge, which made him bossy. I have never felt so in control before and it was fantastic!
Months passed and penny transfers persisted every day. Emily and I joked about it the whole time, speculating about when my ex would finally lose it. I felt like I won a little battle every time I saw a penny taken from my account!
One day Dan sent me another message. This time, however, it wasn’t grumpy. “Stacy, please. Simply put, stop. I understand. You win.” I considered it for a long time. It was crazy, but honestly, was it something we wanted to do forever?
I decided to stop paying pennies, but not before I made the final adjustment. I took out the pennies and nickels I still owed him and put them in a small box. It was a great little package. I tied a pretty bow around it and added a handwritten note:

Dan, have a great time.”
