Although I was not the biological father of my girls, my husband helped me raise them.
Finally, he made a big decision of his own accord that ruined everything and changed my life.
I met Nicholas years ago when I was going through the hardest time of my life. As a single mother, I had to provide for my two girls. However, we got married within a year of falling in love. Plus we moved into the most amazing house I’ve ever seen.
After a previous divorce, Nicholas had a son, Nick Jr., with whom he hardly ever spoke. Nicholas’ ex-wife made every effort to prevent him from seeing the child. He missed his son and hated her attitude.
As a result, he became the best father my girls have ever known as he embraced the role of father. Eventually, they stopped referring to him as “stepfather”. It was just their father. However, that was over 20 years ago. My girls have grown up and started their own households.
Fortunately, we have two grandchildren thanks to my oldest, Darlene. The boys were frequent visitors and Santa loved them. One Sunday they came to lunch and I wanted to discuss something important with Darlene. The night before, my husband told me something I wasn’t sure I could handle.
I wanted my daughter’s honest opinion, but I felt it was unfair. Fortunately, Nicholas had a park date planned for the kids. “Okay, dear Alice. He looked at me worriedly, knowing I was thinking about last night, and said, ‘I’ll see you later.’
“Mom, what’s going on?” Darlene asked when we were finally alone.
“Oh, Darlene. I’m not sure about my next course of action. I’m not sure if I’m self-centered or not,” | he started
“Tell me. We’ll work it out,” she assured me.
“Your father said something to me last night that I’m not sure I can forgive. I made it clear that he bequeathed this magnificent mansion to his son Nick.”
“What? Darlene commented confused, “I thought he hadn’t talked to Nick in years.
“He hadn’t! Ever since that heated argument where Nick was saying all kinds of derogatory things to him because he refused to give him money,” he continued.
She gives him this house, doesn’t she? You also live here. “You two are married,” Darlene added.
“That’s the point, my love. He didn’t tell me anything about it; he made up his own mind. He showed me the will last night. Everything was notarized,” | established. “She will also give him all the money in his bank account.
When Darlene stated, “I can’t believe Dad would do this,” “I don’t think either my sister or I had any expectations. But for 20 years, he absolutely despised us — his family.”
“I feel that way. Like we were never his family after all this time! I’m aware that his horrible mother had an effect on his child who mistreated him for a long time. But I still don’t have it.” .” I don’t know what to do,” I said, wiping away the tears that were streaming down my face.
“I’m just amazed. You two have enjoyed a perfect relationship for so long. I’ve discussed this with my husband constantly. Your father’s actions are beyond belief,” Darlene mumbled. “I’ll call Rosaline. Let’s get her thoughts.”
“What did Dad do?!” Rosaline shouted into the loudspeaker. “It’s unbelievable. I don’t want his money, but it’s unbelievable that he wouldn’t want a mom in need to be financially secure.”
Darlene said, “Yeah, that’s how I feel,” to her sister. Meanwhile, I was crying silently.
“Well, I’m sorry. I won’t stand it, I consider him my father. You’re entitled to the money and the house, Mom. We’ll file a lawsuit right now. After screaming Rosaline.” .” he hung up.
“I wanted to stop it from getting worse. I was hoping Darlene would convince her sister to change her mind, and I told her, ‘He’s my husband and I know he wants to take care of Nick Jr. because he’s been there for a long time. He wasn’t.” most of his life.”
“No, mother. Neither you nor father are to blame.”
If something happens, what will you do? You would end up impoverished and homeless. Rosaline is right. If he doesn’t change his mind, we have no choice,” Darlene urged.
I hesitantly replied, “I’ll try to talk to him.” However, Nicholas was someone I knew. I was sure he wouldn’t reconsider. After Darlene and her kids left that evening, I talked to him. I packed my things and went to stay with Rosaline because Nicholas wouldn’t budge.
We offered him many opportunities to change his mind before we brought him to justice. Nicholas finally decided to sell the big house and give me half of the proceeds. There was no other option, even though I didn’t want to divorce him.
This also gave me half of our savings.
He destroyed our bond. I never saw him again, nor did my girls. After all, he didn’t consider us family.
