Military families are widely recognized for their profound sacrifice. It is always challenging for soldiers to place their lives at risk on the battlefield or endure prolonged separation from their loved ones. In 2013, Decca Records aimed to honor the remarkable endeavors of families connected to the Armed Forces. Consequently, they initiated a quest to discover gifted individuals within UK Armed Forces families, excluding children with a parent or sibling serving in the UK or abroad.
According to The Daily Mail, numerous children participated in the search, but the pool was eventually narrowed down to 60 candidates. Among them, 11 individuals progressed to the final stage. The Poppy Girls comprise a talented ensemble of five young ladies.
During that time, the group consisted of Megan Adams, Florence Ransom, Bethany Davey, Charlotte Mellor, and Alice Milburn. The Poppy Girls showcased their talents by performing a composition by Regina Spektor, an American singer-songwriter. The song they presented was titled “The Call (No Need To Say Goodbye).”
This captivating song made its debut at the Royal British Legion’s Festival of Remembrance, an extravagant event where Queen Elizabeth II was among the distinguished attendees.
The Festival of Remembrance, held on the second Sunday of November, is a commemoration of the end of World War I. It features various activities, including musical performances, religious ceremonies, and the symbolic acts of laying wreaths and poppies.
Every second Sunday of November, the Festival of Remembrance serves as a solemn tribute to the conclusion of World War I. A range of commemorative activities is arranged, including musical performances, religious services, and the symbolic acts of laying wreaths and poppies.
Precisely at 11 a.m., it is customary for everyone to pause their activities and unite in a moment of profound silence, paying homage to those who perished in the conflict.
As part of this extraordinary occasion, the Poppy Girls graced the event with an awe-inspiring performance. However, just when the audience believed that the pinnacle of wonder had been reached, an incredibly heartwarming occurrence unfolded—a reunion between one of the Poppy Girls and her military father, captured in the video below.
