Olympic competitor Rebecca Cheptegei has passed on at 33 years old in the wake of being splashed in petroleum and set ablaze by her sweetheart, as per various reports.
“We are profoundly disheartened to declare the death of our competitor, Rebecca Cheptegei early earlier today who unfortunately succumbed to abusive behavior at home,” Uganda’s sports league shared by means of X on Thursday, September 5.
“As an organization, we denounce such demonstrations and call for equity. May her spirit find happiness in the hereafter,” the post closed.
Cheptegei was taken to the medical clinic on Sunday, September 1, following a conflict with her sweetheart, Dickson Ndiema, at her home in Kenya, revealed the BBC and the Related Press.
Dr. Owen Menach, acting head of the Moi Educating and Reference Emergency clinic in Eldoret, where Cheptegei was conceded, let neighborhood media know that Cheptegei passed on after the entirety of her organs bombed on Wednesday, September 4, per the BBC and Sky News.
Donald Rukare, the leader of Uganda’s Olympic panel, composed through X on Thursday, “We have learnt of the miserable passing on of our Olympic competitor Rebecca Cheptegei OLY following a horrible assault by her beau.”
May her delicate soul find happiness in the hereafter and we emphatically censure brutality against ladies. This was a fearful and silly demonstration that has prompted the passing of an incredible competitor. Her inheritance will keep on persevering,” Rukare added.
Trans Nzoia Region Police Commandant Jeremiah ole Kosiom recently said that Ndiema “purchased a jerrican of petroleum, poured it on her and set her burning during a conflict” that occurred on Sunday, per the AP.
“The couple were heard quarreling outside their home,” Kosiom expressed, as per the BBC, who alluded to Ndiema as Cheptegei’s “previous” sweetheart in their report. “During the fight, the sweetheart was seen pouring a fluid on the lady prior to consuming her.”
The AP revealed that Ndiema got consumes during the episode too, and both were taken to the Moi Educating and Reference Medical clinic, in Eldoret, a city in Kenya.
Cheptegei contended as a significant distance and long distance runner for Uganda in the 2024 Paris Olympics, completing in 44th spot.
The AP announced that she and Ndemia had squabbled about land that her home was based on. Cheptegei’s folks said the competitor purchased land and moved to Trans Nzoia to her train.
