A tragic event occurred in Missouri that resulted in the death of a 1-year-old girl who was hit by a train.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol says authorities say the youth was “not standing” when she was hit by the train.
A 1-year-old girl was killed after being struck by a train in Missouri over the weekend, officials said.
Authorities say the little girl was “standing” on the railroad tracks when she was struck by a train in Hardin, Missouri, shortly after 8:45 a.m. local time on Saturday.
Parents Daylea and Hunter, who did not use their last names, identified the youngster as their daughter Harper in an interview with CBS station KCTV. She will be two years old in a few weeks, the media reported.
Daylea remembered the boy as a “happy kid” and said of him, “Harper was very adventurous.”
Hunter said, “Our little girl is up there grinning at us.”
The Ray County Sheriff’s Office described what happened as a “tragic event” in a post released Saturday.
We will not make any notes at this time. We ask that you respect their privacy and pray for everyone affected by today’s incident, they said. Sheriff Scott Childers commented in a statement that he is “struggling with the situation” and “cannot imagine the trauma the family is going through.”
According to KCTV, Childers was one of the first responders to reach the area.
