Player Misses Chance to Win $1M on Difficult ‘Wheel of Fortune’ Puzzle

A recent episode of Wheel of Fortune on May 13th captivated audiences when a contestant froze under pressure during the crucial Bonus Round, with a staggering $1 million prize at stake.

The episode, themed “Bragging Rights,” brought together three colleagues from the same pediatric medical office, turning friendly competition into a spirited battle for workplace bragging rights.

Sam Oh, hailing from Cypress, Texas, went head-to-head against his Houston-based coworkers Peter Jung and Daniel Park. Their close professional ties added a layer of personal rivalry and fun to the contest, engaging both the studio and viewers alike.

Host Ryan Seacrest kicked things off with a humorous exchange after learning Jung had once been Park’s pediatrician. Jung joked, “Still waiting for him to grow,” to which Seacrest replied with a grin, “People say the same about me—better watch it!”

Adding to the lighthearted mood, the contestants agreed the losers would don “Wheel of Misfortune” T-shirts, custom-designed by Jung’s wife. Sam Oh confidently declared he wouldn’t be wearing one, setting the tone for a fiercely competitive game.

Oh got off to a strong start, quickly accumulating $2,000 in the second toss-up and impressively solving “Giving a Little Pep Talk” during the Jackpot Round, securing an extra $2,000 and a vacation to Costa Rica. He followed this by correctly answering “Surround Sound System,” pushing his total to $18,600.

Jung stayed hot on Oh’s heels, landing the coveted $1 million wedge and solving the “Macadamia Nut Cookies” puzzle, which earned him a Maui getaway and $14,000. Park, though slower to gain momentum, managed to crack the final puzzle “This Girl Is On Fire,” finishing with $1,700.

As the main game wrapped, Oh led with $28,050, with Jung trailing at $16,450, setting the stage for Oh to tackle the high-pressure Bonus Round for the grand prize.

The category was “Phrase,” and with his teammates cheering—and wearing their “loser” shirts—Oh faced the puzzle board. After the standard letters R, S, T, L, N, and E lit up, he was prompted to choose three consonants and one vowel. He confidently started with “C,” but then suddenly hesitated.

As the clock ticked down, Seacrest gently urged, “Take a guess.” Oh quickly added “G,” “M,” and “O,” revealing the partial phrase “O_T O__ _ C.” He guessed “Out of,” but was unable to solve the full phrase, which was “Out of Whack.”

Despite an outstanding performance through most of the game, Oh’s moment of uncertainty during the Bonus Round cost him the chance at the million-dollar prize. Viewers sympathized with the pressure he faced, recognizing how even skilled contestants can stumble when the stakes are at their highest. Although the grand prize slipped away, Sam Oh’s solid gameplay and gracious demeanor earned him admiration from his fellow players and fans alike. The episode served as a reminder that Wheel of Fortune’s greatest thrills often come down to nerve and timing under pressure.
