At first, after developing a limp, Davi told his father he had injured himself while playing. However, as his condition worsened, he admitted to doctors that he had gone to a pharmacy, mixed a dead butterfly with water, and injected the concoction into his leg.
The cause of death is suspected to be toxins from the mixture that triggered septic shock, leading to multiple organ failure. The case has attracted significant attention in Brazilian media.
